SOVEREIGN JEWELRY HUNTING QUESTION......................

.................................Do you notch out the pulltabs? Do you set regular discrimination at no. 6 and the notch is off or do you set the notch at no.14? I have the 550 meter so I can use the meter instead of using the notch! The detector seems to be more sensitive/depth with the notch off! This set-up is not for the beach ...........but like at a School Grounds! Thanks Joe

You will lose the gold if you use disc and notch. You will still get most of the silver.
You can avoid some of the tabs with the meter....if a lot of them have a specific reading. Even then, you better listen to them close to see if they sound like tabs or something else in spite of the meter. Screw caps can be sorted from silver jewelry this way too. Most screw caps will fall on just 2 or 3 different readings, and will not sound as good as silver.

Best bet is to listen to it all.....very carefully. Dig whatever does not sound quite like the junk that is typical for the location.

I'm not senile yet, so when I repeat this, please take note......
LISTEN CAREFULLY TO EACH TARGET.

i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on setting the discrim and the notch for the beach usualy i set them both at 3-4 dots going counter clock wise i run my sensitivity at 11 o'clock and i get awsome depth but i have to dig everything and the pros i hunt with tell me dig everything but this takes alot of time when i know the toggle switch can be set to discrim the threshold barely audible the volume all the way up and the sens. like i said arond 11-12 o'clock but i keep the notch and the discrimination dials turned almst all the way down except for the dots i usually go 3-4 dots i get amazing epth you woldnt believe it if i told you im using the factory DD tornado coil 8 inch and i can get a quarter at 12 inches with no problem thats why im getting a DD coil for my whites dfx also i thik they run smoother they have a wider search pattern and there searching deeper but thas not m qiestion what do i need to be setting my notch and discrim. dials on and still find gold and coin and get rid of some of the trash at he same time

With the Sovereign and beach hunting gold can come in anywhere on the tones and ID on the meter. I run my Sovereign on land and I have the disc and the notch turned off (counterclockwise) and go by the tones it make and how they sound and read on the meter. On beach hunting gold can come in at any tone, so you want to dig all positive signals as iron will null or give you a broken signal. You will get coins and jewelry plus if you don't dig pull tabs you will not dig some of the gold rings either. On land where digging is not as easy I don't want to dig unless I have to so and feel there is too many pull tabs to dig all, so I dig the coin signals and any that are deep and small signals that I have the tones and ID trying to climb as these are the deep good signals for me. I have used notch at times too only where it is loaded with pull tabs and I am tired of listening to all the pull tab tones. In this case I find the pull tabs that give me the most problem are those the read higher up close to the zinc penny, so i just max out the notch and it will either null on these or the signal will be broken up.
For notch to work it has to be set higher than the disc control is and if you have a problem pull tab and want to notch it out just wave the coil over it while turning up the notch until that signal will break up or null out.
