Hi:
In about 10 days I am buying a GT (used).
I have had several detectors including the X-terra70 and the 705.
I've had the Eagle spectrum for years and then the MXt Took the MXT and the Spectrum on hunts together for comparison.
Sold them and bought the Tejon when it came out .Sold that.
Quit for awhile and just getting back into it.
recent purchases were the Bandido ll umax, Silver umax which I returned to seller for being defective, the X-terra 70 and the 705.
sold them also I have a fisher F5 right now.I'm goiung to find out the truth about the GT.
Some people sell them and they are in beauti ful condition smoe sell them with the meter.
Do you need this meter-Is it very accurate.
One I don't have right now thatI did have is a pinpointerand from the reviews it looks like the pistolPro is the one to get.
Is there anything I should absolutely have with the GT.
Thanks to all of you for your inputs.
David

IMO the meter is a must have if you are going to be hunted in the dirt. You could easily get away without one for beach hunting.

As for the pin pointer it's tough to go wrong with Garrett's Pro Pointer! It does not interfere with the Sovereign, has decent depth, is easy to carry and is built like a tank. I would not even consider detecting without it:thumbup:. I bought mine from another member here and it's cut in half the amount of time I spend recovering targets.

patience, make sure and give it time, and you should be fine with it. a meter and pinpointer are great accessories but make sure your ok with the overall way the detector works before you invest in those. there is a pinpoint mode(all metal) that will help locating targets and the tone ID is superb so take your time with it and best of luck with it!

I have owned my GT for less than a year. I have bad hearing and even if I didn't, I feel the meter is a must. Some tones are very close together and hard to tell the difference. That's where the meter is extremely helpful. It really helps you to decipher what the machine is telling you. You can alway's sell the meter later. They are easy to sell.

The Pistol Probe has great depth but will give the Sovereign some cross talk. The Garrett Pro Pinpointer may be your best option.Good Luck Ron

OK guys thanks.
I saw the videos comparing pin pointers and never realized there would be interference.
that was good info.
Hope to be part of this forum when I get the GT
Boy! I missed out on one from jezzowat or what ever his name was
two months old with the meter for $550

David...........

Get the 180 meter for sure. If you are looking used I'd seriously consider the Sunray Probe over a regular pinpointer.
It will pinpoint a little deeper and best of all you don't have to carry the darn thing. I grabbed a very nice GT with meter and probe on this forum for about $600.

This is what it looks like on the Sovereign Elite in case you didn't know. Same thing on the GT : CLICK

Hi everybody.
I would like to thank all those who contacted me about a possible sale.
I said I would buy a GT and I will but It is hard to make a choice when some of them are in beautiful shape.
I will make the best deal I can and hope nobody takes offense if I don't take theirs.
I can't wait to get it. Thanks for the emails about the Gt, I know it will take time to learn it.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts.
I have reports that are not so good about repairs and most of the people who contacted me had older or were not the original owner and couldn't come up with how old it was.
There were a couple of mint ones with a meter that sold for $550. I will have the money to buy one by sunday night.I didn't know minelab let some people go?i don't like when they turnover good help. A lot of experience goes out the door.

The Sovereigns are built well and very rare to see a defective one, but do see some people tried to mod the control boxes and make a mess out of them and sell them on the auction or classified and let someone else deal with it. Send it in to Minelab and they will charge you to straighten it out if they can.
I have been detecting since 1973 and selling Minelab since 1996 plus other detectors and find the Sovereigns have been the most trust worthy detector i have ever used. Out of all I have sold I seen one Sovereign I had to send in for repair and that was a bad control for the sensitivity as it wouldn't go into auto. I also had one used Sovereign I bought from another dealer that he didn't checkout as it was bad as he traded it in without checking it as they guy had been in the control box and didn't know what he was doing and shorted out some components, but the dealer made it right.

Minelab Sovereigns are not made for everyone and those that spend the time to use them and understand them are rewarded well with some of the best finds you will ever see.

You ever wonder how many detectors are sent in to be repaired and found nothing wrong with them from people that know the Sovereign well.

Well I am still going to but one but we will see what i am offered.
I just sold the silver Umax so that leaves me with the F5 which I can turn to once in a while.
I have a ton of targets in my yard. My house was built in 1916 and I heard this was farm land at one time.
I dug some iron and some coin but left most of the targets until I get the sovereign.
I have some coins I buried about two years ago.
I found this with the fisher.
It's a amusement game center license #154
it says it expires on 7-31-36.It was about 6" down.
I think it read as a dime or Quarter I don't remember.
They used to tack these on the support poles of the amusement stand.
There are a couple of wheaties one is 1927
