Sovereign GT vs Excalibur ?

I have both an Excalibur and DFPI and like both, however, I am considering getting a Sovereign GT for wet/dry sand hunting. Is there any advantage having the GT over the Excalibur ?

Some say the Elite or GT are a bit deeper and more sensitive to somewhat smaller stuff than the Excal. Other than that the GT is balanced much better and way more comfortable on land unless you mode the Excal with a straight shaft. Another perk is the ability to plug a meter into it when you want to be picky, like say a particular tab loaded at the beach near say a beach bar or something. Better audio using your own headphones on the Sovereign unless you've modded your Excal. I can tell you the stock headphones on my friend's Excal give me no where near the audio quality I get from my cheap $20 Sony headphones I use on my GT. Then there is the ability to change coils without having to mod a GT. There are many who own a GT for the beach and the Excal for the water. If you stick your GT in a $20 Plano box and mount it on a back shaft extension so it's not dragging/floating in the water now you've got a dual land/water unit. Added perk to the GT is ability to throw the meter on for some serious land hunting for old coins and such. Both great machines. Just have to decide if you really need a beach unit. Why not put the Excal on a balanced straight shaft and use that in the water, unless you want to change coils or such.

Forgive the snark, but another benefit to the Sovereign is that the knobs aren't prone to breaking. :poke:

The Sunray S-1 probe can be used, those who never used this combo the Sunray Probe works best with the Sovereign.HH Ron
