Sovereign GT Users

Hi all,

I had a question on the GT. I am the previous owner of the Elite which was a very impressive detector that i primarily used for land hunting. I have since upgraded to an Explorer SE and even though it is also a fantastic detector I feel much more comfortable with Sovereign. I just don't feel that I need 99 different tones to pluck goodies out of teh ground since I am a dig all kind of guy.

So to make a long story short I am thinking of swapping teh SE out for a GT and I wanted to ask you guys how you felt about the GT. I browse this forum constantly and I have always seen just as many good finds and things said about the Sovereigns as the Explorers on their forum.

And I will tell you this, I have made more finds with my elite than the Explorer so far ;)

I have wanted to try the Explorer.

I use both the GT and the Elite.

My Elite has been modded by Dixie for Silent Search.

I have grown to appreciate the threshold tone of the Gt, and so I raise the threshold on the Elite so they act the same.

I can use either machine effectively, at least I feel confident in using either one. I have noted that both machines will signal something, when a target is either too deep or too small.

I do know that the Sovereigns have a different language of their own, and once you get used to it, you then start to learn what it is actually saying. If you go back to another machine, like a single toned machine, you feel naked.

I don't know what else to say.

Hey, whats up ?? I tried to Pm you on the other fourm but I was cut out of the picture once again, and didnt see if you replied or not .I will Pm you and we can chat a bit, I personally wouldnt make the trade if I were you.The Se looks to be ''the one'' , if you really do want to go back to a sovereign, then sell that Se and pick up a used Gt or elite, you will come out with some extra dough. I have a few errands I will Pm you later we can talk on the phone or something (exchgange numbers again).take care. I personally think you need to give that new se more time, cant you switch it to one single tone ?? or lessen the ammount of tones ?? anyhow talk to ya later .......

Adam,

nice to talk to ya again and I will watch for that PM. Just so you know I didn't get one on the otehr forum if you sent it. I am surprised to hear you tell me to keep the SE! I thought you were sold on teh Sovereign left and right ;)

I'll have to play with the Explorer tones some more but the SE just doesn't feel natural to me. The Sovereign I felt very comfortable with and it was fun to use. The Explorer feels more like a chore to use. Not sur eif that makes sense but there ya have it.

I've got about a 30 sq yd site that I've hunted to death with the
sov. xs2a, and found about a hundred old coins, tokens, tags, and
medals. I was also lured by the explorer hype and bought one
thinking I could get another inch or two and more old coins. After
using it for a while I did find three more old coins. But when I
double checked them with the sovereign, I could work them up to a
180 signal and had just missed them like we sometimes do. I think
the explorer will find anything the sov. will, but the sov. is so
much more user friendly that when I hunt a new site, I grab the sov.

Keep the Sovereign.
I have one and it works great.:detecting:

That says that you are more comfortable with the Sovereign. I have both the GT and the SE plus a F-75 and to me the GT is more comfortable to use as I can tell the tones so much better. One thing on the SE I like over the older Explorers is the pitch hold on the SE as it makes the tones a bit better. It is almost like the Sovereign where it keeps the tone of the last target. I also wish the meter would read the tones as you hear it on the Explorer like the Sovereigns do as what you hear is what you see on the meter. The Explorers are better when you want to tell the silver from the clad or dimes from a quarter, but the Sovereign uses one tone and one meter reading which is OK with me, but some like to know the difference. With the Explorer it is recommended to stick with the factory setting until you know it a little better. Those that learn the Explorer loves them around here, but then there are a few that tried the Explorer and the Sovereign and like the Sovereign better as the tones are so much easier to understand.
Myself i do feel the GT is the best Sovereign made and feels it is more sensitive too than the older Sovereign.
