Sovereign GT Sensitivity gone haywire

Sand Scoop

New member
I'm going to throw this out before I send in my Sovereign for work. While at the beach the other day I was going along everything working finding a little clad when the Ol Sovereign began chattering, making high pitched sounds about like when you get wet sand in between the coil and cover. I usually set my sensitivity all the way down almost in Auto and thats where it stays. Now with all this noise I need to set it in either Auto or turn the sensitivity to about 3 O'Clock to make the noise stop. I've checked all the switches and knobs. Has anyone experienced anything like this. I tried opening it a little and blowing warm air in from the wifes hair dryer thinking it may have been moisture but didn't help. The coil looks OK so I don't think the problems there.

I sent the Excal back and they started with replacing the board then followed with a new coil. Do you have another coil you can try? My bet.... it's the coil.

My thoughts too. If your sensitivity is set all the way down 'almost in auto', then it will go haywire.. Try somwwhere between 10 and 12 o clock to start with, reducing it slowly until it becomes stable.

OK,I didn't explain it correct, all they way up just out of Auto. That's where I've been operating it for the almost 2 years and I didn't need to adjust it unless I went into the water (wading) then I would tweak it a little. Now at the setting it goes crazy. Its the same area I've hunted a hundred times. It even chatters when I air test it. I've never had to set it to 10 or 12 now it chatters at 3 o'clock

If you have your sensitivity turned "almost' to auto, then you are running your sensitivity wide open as others have said. My GT starts squawking and squealing if the sensitivity is turned past 10 o'clock. The best setting for mine to get max. depth is 1 o'clock.

If you have been running yours for 2 years with the sensitivity wide open I don't know how it could not have acted up before.
