Sovereign GT Pinpoint Switch & Raising The Meter Mods?

Critterhunter

I quickly learned that the pinpoint switch on the GT with the box mounted under the armrest is useless. I'm used to Whites where it's on a trigger next to your finger. Does anybody have a link to modding the GT for this and how did they mount the switch on the grip? Looking for ideas. Also, the meter needs raised and tilted back but I'm not willing to pay $20 for a piece of plastic to do this. Anybody raise it someway that's easy to DIY? I'm figuring drilling the rivets out and raising it on bolts?

Didn't you do a section on this mod a really long thread? Did you ever get it down to the precise steps. I'd like to try this but want to practice soldering first and have clear precise steps. I have thought of going through it but not sure wgere the finalized version is for modding the remote pinpoint switch. Could you PM it to me? Much appreciated!

Yes, long since figured out how to mount the meter with a pipe hanger anywhere, even on the grip, and also I took the GT apart and figured out the switch configurations to install a remote PP stereo jack to plug into, as all the old remote PP mods were for prior models with different switch configurations.

Go to the Sovereign forum and look in the accessories sticky for links to threads on all this stuff. Also, if you search for "remote pin point" ALL WORDS 30 DAYS search in that forum you should find a thread where the latest pictorial schematic of the remote PP was posted, along with more "streamlined" "this is how it works" info on it I posted.

If you need any help with understanding that pictorial just ask away, although I tried to make it as detailed as possible so even somebody lacking a multimeter could simply follow the pin outs and wire it all up real easy like. It's an easy mod, and the solder point to the stock switch is fairly open and easy to work around, but just the same if you don't know how to solder far better to have somebody do it.

It's important to not, that although you do cut one wire on the stock disc switch, the stock switches will still work as stock regardless of whether the remote PP is plugged in or not. It's just that when the remote PP is plugged in and thrown a certain way, that it will bypass the disc switch's setting and turn control over to whatever mode you have the All Metal switch on the faceplate set at.

That way you retain full function of stock switches, and also have the ability to set both stock switches to whatever modes you want, and be able to toggle between them both using the remote PP. It's the reason why I wired it up the way it is, and also to avoid any potential conflicts of certain stock settings that might do something the GT was never meant to be able to do, such as create two different mode pathways at the same time. Didn't want to risk the potential of bad things if that could happen, so I did it the way it's done to that risk.

Not sure I quite follow this paragraph: "It's important to not, that although you do cut one wire on the stock disc switch, the stock switches will still work as stock regardless of whether the remote PP is plugged in or not. It's just that when the remote PP is plugged in and thrown a certain way, that it will bypass the disc switch's setting and turn control over to whatever mode you have the All Metal switch on the faceplate set at."

Yes, I do not know how to solder, although it doesn't seem that difficult. If I knew someone who could do this mod I would just pay them to do it. People with the GT(without the pinpoint mod) on a straight shaft must be staying in one mode all the time or they are lifting that thing constantly some awkward way to mess with the controls. That would be too much of a hassle for me. That's why I have a strap attached to an S-shaft: it's weightless and my index finger can reach the toggle switches.

Well maybe I will try this...I have a carbon fiber straight shaft and thought about using a GPX handle with the button.
