First thing is you may get mad when you try to put it together, lot of extra cable on the coil, so a lot of wrapping around the shaft. The hand grip has to be slid on to the straight upper shaft, but wont seem to fit. Just loosen up the screws enough so the nuts don't fall of the back of it, or if they do that is OK too as long as you don't lose them. I take the black plastic cap off the back of the shaft and just stick and small screwdriver in the crack on the hand grip and pry just a little so it will start on the shaft, then it will go on with no problem and when in place tighten the screws down.
Now when you get it all together and the battery charged you are ready to do some testing and calibrate the meter if you have one. Try the volume max, notch off which is all the way counter clockwise, disc all the way counter clock wise too, sensitivity also all the way counter clockwise until it click into auto. The one toggle switch to pinpoint, one to iron mask on disc, and most find the noise cancel to 2 works the best. try different coins and trash items and hear the tones it makes when swinging them back and forth across the coil. when you think you got it figured out you are ready to go and do some actual detecting which you will find is not as easy as the air test were as you now will have more tones and a lot of nulling too. Just take your time and learn what this detector is telling you, it will be worth it when you do. You may feel it was a waste of money until you do, then when you know it you will see where it was well worth the money it cost for this great detector that will give you much info of a target.
Go slow, have patience, don't give up and the more you use it the easier it get and the better finds you will find. The Sovereign is one of the best ever built which you will see once you get to know this detector.
Good luck and I am sure you will have a lot of questions when you first get it, I sure did and with the help of this forum i was able to do well with mine, so ask question all you want as there is a lot of great people here to help you.
