Sovereign GT numbers

Barry

New member
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, my first post.
Recently purchased a GT to compliment my E-Trac and love them both.
Use the sovereign mostly in disc. and have compiled a set of numbers for all Aussie coins old and new.
(using a Digitech 180 meter )When I switch to " all Metal " everything and that means everything reads as #107.
Is this normal? Anyone have an explanation for this?
Enjoy the forum immensely.
Thanks for any replys.
Barry

So easy a caveman can do it........
The audio and the meter ID voltage are tied together. One cannot move without the other moving.
If you have noticed, when you start up your detector in disc or all metal----either one----the threshold tone is always the same. And the meter will have that same number on it every time until it picks up a signal and changes if in disc mode.
This is not only the default start up tone, but also the default all metal tone.-------and the default startup ID that goes with that tone and the default all metal ID. Unless something happens to change the threshold tone pitch, the meter will continue to read this same number.

G'day Art,
Thanks for reply.
I agree that the same threshold tone will give same numbers reading. My problem is that in All Metal mode I get the same numbers for different coins which give vastly different readings in Disc mode. For example --
A $1 coin in Disc reads 150 the same coin in all metal reads 107.
A 5c piece in Disc reads 104 and in all metal reads 107.
Rings which read 91 in disc. also reads 107 in all metal.
The tone for each in disc is noticably different but in all metal sounds the same ( hence the same reading )
My question is ---is this the way the GT functions or should I also get different readings in all metal as I do in Disc? If I should get different readings ( hence different tones ) in All metal then I either have a problem with the Detector or the Meter.

In all metal mode, the tone will be the same, and the meter will not change, This is normal
The tone will be louder of softer depending on the depth of the target. But the actual tone will not change
Machine is OK

The Sov does not ID by meter or tone in any all metal mode. Some detectors do but not a Sov.
If I had a big Foster's first I may have understood what you wanted and could have provided a more simple answer for you.
You guys are OK. Must be our common language barrier.

G'day again Art,
Old enough to be a caveman, but too thick skined to take offence.
Kind Regards,
Barry.

No attempt to rub you the wrong way.
We have a TV commercial that uses that caveman slogan.
Would tell you to have a good night, but I guess that right about now I should tell you to have a good day....let's see if this dumb yank can get this right...
G'day Mate.

In all metal it act more of a target signal strength meter is what I call it. As you go over a target you will notice as you come over and pass the target the number change a lot if it is close to the coil. Now raise the coil up and go over it and you will notice the numbers will get lower and not change as much so we know it is deeper, but we already know that with the audio so the meter is of no use in all metal. The meter is to be used in disc mode which you will see is very accurate once you get to know the GT. You will also notice as the target is deeper these numbers will be harder to get as the signals will be smaller and why for the real deep one we have to go slow and listen close and wiggling the coil over just the target area we will see our good numbers we want to see.

Good luck, you have the detector that will find the goodies.

The language thing. Can't speak proper "Queen's English", proper Aussy English, or even American English.......which is getting so mixed up that before long we won't be able to understand each other here.

G'day to you Barry.

Art, Rick, Tim.
Appreciate your time to straighten me out on the function of the GT.
It's all new to me, and sometimes a little confusing.
Thanks again,
Barry
