Sovereign GT learning curve or not ?

jlw

New member
I've read many post on the forum some say the Sovereign GT has a strong learning curve some say it is a turn on and go detector, which is it?

Well the GT you can turn on and go, but if you really what all you can get out of it then take the time to learn your GT or any detector you have and it will pay in the long run..........HH

Turn on a go as all you need to do is set the controls where they are marked and turn it on and go and it will do great for you. Later on you can change the sensitivity from auto to manual and Once you get to know it chances are you will leave it in those setting.
Now the learning curve has to do with a person using this turn on a go detector as it has different tone, not just a beep beep detector and understanding these tones as what they mean, we call it the Sovereign language. Also learning how to swing the coil at different speed for different area you detect plus to be able to bring out the best tone on the signal. Most of this you learn by experience by using it, so if you only plan to spend a hour or 2 a week you may find it a hard detector to use, but if you are going to spend 20-30 hours a week you may find it easy to use and a short learning experience

Setting the unit up to give best performance is going to be easy, unlike other machines like the Explorer where it can be a bit complicated to figure out which settings might give best performance at any given site. Set some of those parameters up wrong on those machines and it could cost you a lot of depth or other kinds of performance. With the GT just max out the sensitivity to the point where the threshold remains stabile while sweeping over clean ground. Set discrimination and notch to zero (or as low as you can stand it), set threshold to just high enough to hear, and your off and running. The learning curve is going to be figuring out how various targets respond. For instance, trying to learn the sound and traits of screw caps so you don't dig a ton of those at certain sites.

Well it depende is this your first detector? Have you been away from the sport for years? If you currently own some sort of maching mostlikely not a big curve. If this is your first maching it wil take a little time to get use to.

Dave hits it right on the head. I have a Dual Field PI machine, with the experience gained from using that, along with what I've read here on the forum it' was an easy learning curve for me.

I bought one at christmas time. I have found alot with it coins, earings, rings and junk. I'm sure I have missed alot also but it has been NO problem learning the machine. There is so much info about it on this great site that it has made it easy. Still alot lot to learn but I just read everything I can and try to do those that I can fiqure out. Good luck you won't be dissapointed.

I like mine . had it for few years , Found lots of goodies with it . Easy to learn . learn your tones you'll be fine ,, Guzz1

Yes there is, however it's a tolerable learning curve. Most of the curve is really learning the tones and what your machine is telling you. No different from any new machine really.

I'll tell you one thing. Once you start learning a Sovereign you won't regret. I have always felt that it was a better machine ( at least for me) than the Explorer or any other machine for that matter when it comes to turf and beach.

If you're on the fence don't be. Sovereigns absolutely rock!
