Sovereign GT Help

10shot

New member
When I turn the Detector on The threshold is all over the place. Today I went outside and was trying different settings. When I turn the Sensitivity all the way clockwise it functions as normal.
When I turn it back to the 3 o'clock it starts getting erratic. Any Ideas

When the sensitivity is turned all the way clock wise or down its no longer erratic and is stable. The good news is at least your sensitivity tuner seems to work.Probably some kind of electrical interference. There could be a long list of things to look for example ,electric dog fence, exposed wiring or close by high power lines.Try a different location at a neighborhood park and see if the GT becomes more stable, even with an increase in the sensitivity. Are you a first time Sovereign user?,which coil is being used? Good Luck Ron

I have used a Sovereign for a few years. I guess I should say this all started after doing the pinpoint mod. So I went back in and undid the mod. and everything was normal then it started back with the erratic threshold. I checked the shielding around the PCB and that was cracked along one of the folds so I cut some foil and taped it into place. the shield has good continuity now. I soldiered the wire back the way it was on the 3 way switch. Am I missing something.

You likely arent hearing the EMI with full threshold because its to loud. Like Ron.... have you tried it at the beach? Cleaned your coil cable connection...... and of course the batteries/box? Trouble shooting is never fun.

have not had a chance to go to beach. I checked batt and voltage was good but Have not checked it under load. i will try that after work today.

I would retrace the steps taken with the pinpoint mod.I would rule out the shielding.Good Luck Ron
