According to the manual, the Ground Balance switch is disabled when searching in Disc mode.

Ground Balance switch ( Track/Fix/Pinpoint )
When operating in Disc mode, the
Sovereign GT
uses digital filtering to
compensate for ground effects and the Track / Fix / Pinpoint function is disabled

So does this mean that when one hunts in Disc mode there is no need to ground balance, or does one have to first ground balance in All Metal mode and then switch to Disc?

I never ground balance my GT as I hunt in disc and like the manual says it uses filtering to compensate for any ground as it compares the ground to your targets.
If I wanted to use all metal or trac for gold hunting then I would have to. Some say they like to run all metal for more depth, but for me and my ground I find that the disc with the filtering does much better for me for my coin hunting I do.

I never GB before going to disc either. The auto GB will catch up and keep the machine balanced. The Sov has a really good GB. IMO a lot better than hunting in AM...... unlike the Xcal.

I think i can post this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7TC3gC9cL4 Des goes thru the Sov pretty well for you.

I disagree with dewcon regarding his GB vs AM comment. I search wet sand beaches only with my GT. Both the wife and I hunt in AM pinpoint, with the sensitivity cranked almost full. It takes a little time to master, but when you do there's nothing better. Faint humps in the threshold is what your looking for. I'll switch to discrimination to check it out and often it doesn't see the target. Get ready for a workout, I've dug many targets at 18 - 24" using the WOT coil and this reverse discrimination method.
