Sovereign GT 8 inch coil cable

grumpy

New member
Hello Folks
Have a question about the new GT coil with the 77 foot long cable on it. Is it ok or common practice or?? to cut the cable and shorten it to a reasonable length. Seems it would be a good thing and thought I had read where it was commonly done.
Thanks for the help

Quite a few have done it.
If you really want to hack on it, please keep something in mind........
Keep it long enough to reach the control box, with a bit to spare. If you cut it to just reach the meter, you might be kicking yourself for it later.

I have all the soldering tool to do the job, but need the connector.
I will have to search Radio shack or other electronics stores.

Anyone knows where to get the connectors?

In my experience you shouldn't have to slice. The connectors are re-usable if you do it right.

On the control box side of the coil wire, just slide the rubber boot down off the connector, this should expose the wires and the "Cable Clamp" that secures the connector to the cable. Just use a small phillips screwdriver and losen the screws for the cable clamp, which should give you access to the wires. From here you can un-solder the wires from the connector.

This is not a HOW-TO guide, but should give you an idea of how it can be accomplished if you have the patience and soldering skills...

HH,

Jeff
