Sovereign Falsing in Wet Sand Area

I got the GT about 2 weeks ago and notice that it falses in the wet sand even when Sens is turned down to 3:00 position. I am hunting Jacksonville Beach. Do you guys hunt mostly in AM Mode rather than Discriminate on the salt water beaches? I run iron mask, volume full clockwise, sens 3:00, threashold just bearly audible, Discrimination at notch 3, no notch. Dry sand no falsing. My Mxt falses less then the gt in wet sand. Wondering?

I haven't had the gt for that long but I've noticed that every beach is different for me. Some, I can run it at 12 then others are at or below 3. Some are different every 15 yards. I think to get the most out of the sov you should be adjusting as much as you can, especially in wet salt sand. A slower sweep will help with falsing as well.

yep, sounds like your sweeping to fast if your sens is set that low. slow down, alot.

Some beaches just contain too much black sand or other minerals to the point where even the BBS machines have trouble with them. If you can't find a stable manual sensitivity setting then try Auto as I feel it sort'a acts like ground tracking in that it will adjust up/down as the sand becomes too "hot" or too "cold". There are old paths with many stones in them at I can't get a stable manual threshold on but Auto works like butter.

Excellent point about trying another coil. Usually a smaller coil will fix or lesson the problem. There is also the SEF coils which many (including me) say run smoother over rough grounds and false less off iron.

The only coil I get to false in the wet sand is the S-12 I find coil control has the most to do with falsing. Black sand has little to do with falsing but rather blocking the signal. You also did not mention where you were when having the problem. Waves running towards the coil will cause all kinds of problems. Also hunting parallel to the ocean will also cause problems try walking to and from the waves rather than up and down.

Are you using a coil cover.....if so, try using it without ....Just small amounts of sand within The coil cover, will cause unstable or erratic threshold .

Yep, very good point. Always clean under your coil. Hate those things, that's why I use spray on bed liner.

Gentlemen,
excellent points!
I will incorporate all these suggestions one at a time in upcoming hunts. Thanks, just learning the machine.
Anyone hunt in AM mode and check inDisc ? Marty

Both of my machines false on that beach close to the water. I set sens at 1 o'clock and it does fine until I am right next to or in the water. Iron Mask on may also be causing this. Coil cover may be full of sand and it washes around inside. Those shoes you wear...do they have ANY metal on them? Even an eyelet will cause this. I was hunting the other day and it kept falsing on the left side. After 10 minutes of this I looked down my side and a fishing leader attached to a sinker in my pouch was hanging down to my knee. The coil was picking it up that far away. Hunt at 3 o'clock in the real shallow water. Knee deep you can run it 4 but not higher. This is the same with the Excal. You should not be falsing at 3 though. Maybe EMI. Above the pier 300 yards EMI was giving me false signals. Something coming from those high rise buildings. I was getting false hits standing still.

I put a bead of black silicone around all my minelab coils.Does the trick
