Sovereign, Ever Have This Happen ?

While wet sand hunting with my GT yesterday, I had a strange thing happen. My setting were, Desc 0, IM on, Notch off, Threshold on, Track , Sen Auto, Batteries full charge.

Hunting away finding many targets when all of a sudden I still had a threshold but wasn't hitting any more targets at all. I took a coin out of my pouch threw it on the ground and couldn't get a sound even if I ran the coil a half inch over the coin, nothing, nada.

I tried different settings and nothing, damn, now what. I was really disappointed figuring I would have to sent it in for repair. It is a brand new machine, only about 3 months sold and I love it for wet/ dry sand hunting.

Anyway, I kept fooling around with it and switched to all metal, pinpoint and was swing away when all of a sudden I started to get hits on targets. I switched back to my ORIGINAL settings and everything was alright and continued that way the rest of the hunt.

Anyone ever have this happen to them and any ideas what may have happened ? I'm concerned I may have a short somewhere but don't want to send it in unless the problem comes back and doesn't go away.

No, I haven't had that happen. But if I understand correctly while in disc just leave the track / fix / PP switch in pinpoint for a quick sizing of a target with the flip into all metal. Fix and track function in all metal and are useful if you are going to search in AllMetal. The track/fix/pp don't aide the actual search in disc but are useful if you wish to ground balance and search in AM. I'm nowhere near as competent with the sov as the users on here but mine has never glitched like that. Sure you were near some burried oil tanker Sandy may have deposited? :) Wicked EMI?
We are overdue to get together to compare notes and hunt. Maybe we will get a mild day or hit a beach. Time runs out so fast. Waiting on a call for my next (last) abdominal surgery.

It sounds very familiar to me once on a beach i swung my coil over a very large iron pipe buried in the sand i was in the same setting,s as you had AM , sens just out of auto and in track what happened was i over loaded !!! to the max with a load scream in my HP,s and it took the GT completly out of ground balance i got nothing until i did another GB and stayed away from that huge pipe after that it worked fine . Hope this helps . Jim

Either what deepdigger said, or, check the cable at the box, and the headphone jack. Once I got the gt out of the car, and didn't get the headphone jack shoved in all the way, almost, but not quite... nada for sound. Another time, was going along just fine, then nothing - turned out my turned-up shirt sleeve must have somehow pulled on the cable or jack, just enough that I wasn't getting any sound, and when that happens, the speaker won't be producing the sound.

One time I had something similar to what deepdigger described happen, not quite the way, but it turned out to be a deep steel pipe that overloaded the machine - took waaaayy long for the threshold to come back. Only time that has ever happened. I have gone over deep steel pipe before, but only had it cut out that way on me the one time. Never since either.
