Sovereign Elite trouble

Hi All, first time posting here. I did a forum search but did not get any results back on this issue. While beach hunting this morning, about an hour after I started, my Elite suddenly stopped making any sound, no threshold, no response on targets, no response when turning the machine off and back on. I checked the battery pack and it was properly seated, I then popped out the battery pack then re-inserted and the machine started working again... I continued searching for another hour so the batteries were not the problem. First time this has happened since I bought the Elite back in 2003, in fact the only problem I have ever had with the machine. Has anyone experienced this before? If so is it just an occasional annoyance or an indication of a failing part?

Thanks for any replies.

Thanks for your reply. I just checked the contacts and they are clean and not tarnished. I also opened the battery pack and checked the battery contact points inside and they are clean as well.

maybe a grain of sand worked its way between contacts and cut the power, reseating the battery dislodged it and worked again(or something on that vane)could also happen in the headphone jack so the machine apears to be off but isn't

I just did a quick experiment... if I pull the headphone jack out about half way, neither the headphones or speaker work, that must have been the issue! Re-seating the battery only appeared to fix the problem, as when I took the battery pack out I also unplugged the headphones... Mystery solved!

Thanks for your reply!

After a installed my remote pinpoint switch in the GT (schematic in the mods forum) I was playing around in the garage showing it off to a friend. I had just done the mod and so I was only minutes into playing with it when the machine stopped working like the power was dead. Needless to say I turned it off quickly and went back over my schematic to make sure I didn't overlook anything. No, I thought, even if the remote switch shorted out to ground it would not hurt the machine but rather keep it stuck in one mode until I fixed the problem. Anyway, removed the battery and spun all the AA's around in the holder to make sure none were loose. Problem solved and I've never had a problem since. When a machine quits like that suspect the battery contacts being dirty, bent, or the batteries being loose. I just had the bad timing of it happening exactly after I did my switch mod which made me seriously suspect I did something wrong for a panicky few minutes.
