Sovereign Elite or GT Tell me the opinions guys!!!

It's been years since I've posted on this forum so I'm glad to be back posting and swinging again. I had a little mind laps in the last few years and just stopped swinging after my favorite detecting spot went under the trac hoe and was turned from the best spot I've ever hunted to a strip mine for bricks  I recently upgraded so I thought, to an Elite and sold my old buddy my XS2Pro after 12 years of Awesome finds. Now back to the real world and POW there's a new Sovereign, whats this all about? How much better is the GT than the Elite and is it worth upgrading since i don't really chase Technology. Please let me know and after breaking this thing in who knows?

Thanks,

Many say the GT gets a little more depth than prior Sovereign models. Seems to ID better and hit harder on fringe targets than prior models. On the other hand, there are some who say they have "hot" Elites that are just as deep or even a bit deeper than a GT they owned. Bottom line is I wouldn't worry about less depth with any Sovereign and in particular the Elite compared to a GT. The Elite uses the same great battery holder design as the GT. The other differences between the two are minor control functions but don't know off hand what the Elite lacks compared to the GT's controls. Somebody else can chime in on that.

Thanks for the info Critter and I hope I got one of those hot ones you spoke of. The Elite came with a 10 Tornado And a 15 Excellerator which I haven't had a chance to try out with this model. I had a WOT for my XS2Pro and got tired of that WOT real quick. TOO hard to swing in the woods. Seems like a great machine still and even poped out a 1923 Merc first time out with it so silver is nice :clapping:.

Thanks Again

Silverdollar,I used and owned all three of these Sovereigns. The GT and Elite will perform on the same level of your old XS-2 Pro.Biggest improvements are the battery setup and Tornado coils on both the GT an Elite.Ergonomic plus with the GT because of the stock rod asm.Its getting harder to find a good deal on any used Sovereign especially the GT.Good Luck.

I have both the Elite and the GT. The Gt has the ability to turn iron mask off. It also has the Ability to lock tracking. Also the Gt has a switch for silent search/threshold. The Elite has a switch for single tone or variable tone. Those are the differences. I love them both and find no depth difference. Is it worth spending the money to upgrade? Not to me. But the Gt came with a strait upper shaft and that is a tremendous upgrade over the S shaft. The batteries are interchangeable. Check out a SEF coil. If you have been away for a while they might be new to you.

As far as depth I don't think there's a lot of difference in any of them. I hunt with a guy that has a XS-2A and I believe it's deeper than my GT. But it's like dragging abound a boat anchor. I'm sure the elite will serve you well.

Thanks for all the replies!! I think that with any machine it's the confidence you put into it that makes all the difference in the world. Like anything else( fishing spot or lure) if you have faith in something you will get better results. I Iove the Sovereign and feel that it gets the job done I guess no matter what model. By the way it sure feels good to be ground fishing again so HAPPY Swinging Everyone and Thanks Again!!!
