Sovereign Elite.......HELP!!!

RamblingRod

New member
Hello, I'm new to this game, but everyone has to start somewhere.I have my first machine, the Sov. Elite/GT. I was wondering if anyone has ideas or digital meter read charts for various objects they would mind sharing. I'm seaching coastal NC beaches and have found enough to get pumped up. But, i've been told so many different thing as far as calibrating my meter and disc...I'm blown away. Can anyone give some honest help to a rookie? Thanks in advance, Rod

I did a lot of buck passing on your other post......

What do you find confusing about meter calibration and disc? Settings, purpose, what??

You may find this hard to believe, but if this is your first detector you might find it easier to learn than if you were trying to switch from a different one.

what i find confusing is i can't get the 550 meter to get a 550 reading on a US quarter..only about 523-525. is this screwing up all my other ""should be's" readings?

That is a problem....

Yes, if you can't get it calibrated, then all other "standard" readings will be wrong.

I put one of the Elite meters on my GT and couldn't do any better than you are. Would calibrate with only a bit to spare on my 2a.

Had to open it up and adjust the internal trimmer.

I know you are going to be told to have it modified to 180 scale so I don't know why I'm going to tell you this.....

You can peel off the face plate, remove the 4 screws, pop out the display section , and adjust the little trimmer on the back of the display assy.

One thing to look for if you open it up is corrosion in the meter as some have had this problem when the meter is reading low and cant calibrate it. When it is open also make sure you center the knob outside the meter first, then adjust the internal until you get the 550 or very close to it so you have some room to work with if you ever change coils.
That is another thing I would check before taking the meter apart and that is to try a different coil as some coils will not calibrate correctly either or have some corrosion in the connectors.

Be careful that inside trimmmer is delicate & is easy to break when turned.....I just sent one in to ML for service due to this
