Sovereign Coil Questions & Recommendations

I have a few questions about the multitude of coils made for the sovereign that
are available. I am using an older Sovereign Xs-2a Pro, and have the Coinsearch 8" coil for it
currently. My question is, I have seen the following coils for sale and I'm having trouble deciding
which would be best for my uses. I do quite a bit of salt water beach hunting, but also some land
hunting with my sov too, mostly parks and schools. The parks/schools, of course, always have plenty of junk.

1. 10" Minelab BBS Slimline coil
2. Sunray X-12
3. Sunray X-8

I do enjoy the Coinsearch for land, but it's not really deep enough for the beach. Plus, since it's not watertight,
i am playing with fire whenever i use it in salt water - as one day it will crap out due to leakage. I would see that
either choice #1 or #2 would give me more depth on the beach, but my feeling is that the 12" coil,
especially, would be too big to hunt with on land, due to too many targets getting under the coil at once.
The WOT (15") is definitely not for me since i think it's way too big. I guess my question is which of the three coils
I listed would be the best choice as a both land/beach coil? What are your opinions, pros/cons of each coil in your experience.

I would like to try all these coils myself and do the research, but with ML coils at about 200 bucks a pop each, I just can't afford to do this. I can
only afford to buy one coil at this point. Are there any other coils available for the sov that I have not considered, that are also worth their salt?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

like Art says, the X designation on sunray coils is for the explorer/etrac series. you want to look for the S designation for the sov series.

either of the tornado coils are great options. both are waterproof/rugged and get excellent depth.

The 10" is a cracking allrounder and the one i use most of the time.Has anybody used the coiltek joey coil??This is a 10x5 elliptical coil that is supposed to be great in the trash but i can't say for sure because i've never used one.May be worth a look though for those trashy parks.Another one worth consideration is the coiltek platypus. This is an 11x8"elliptical coil intended as a replacement for the standard minelab coils.I used one of these on my quattro and it was certainly better than the quattro's standard coil at the time. It's advantages were better seperation in the trash and much better pinpointing.Andy sabisch has done a write up on this coil and it seemed to do well in his tests.

On the Explorer and E-Trac the Joey are great and so is the Platupus, but on the Sovereigns I didn't like the Joey as much as the S-8 of SunRays. On the Sovereigns I like the 8 inch Coinsearch, the S-8 of Sun Rays for smaller coils and the stock Slimline Tornado and the S-12 of Sun Rays for the bigger coils.
