Sovereign coil question..

You must have got the XS2a used as new the cable is long enough to hip mount with no problem. The Sovereign coils will all interchange with any of the Sovereigns, so the Slimline Tornado coil will work on your Sovereign. The coil does feel lighter when swinging it over the 10BBS coil with some of it being they made it better balanced. I used several of the 10 BBS coils and didn't like them like the older 8 inch coinsearch coil or the Sun Ray coils, but when I got the 10 inch Tornado coil on my new GT and used it a bit I find I like this coil over the older 10 inch BBS coils and haven't even used my favorite 8 inch coinsearch coil as this 10 inch coil does good for me.

Charles, with the cord shorten on your 10 inch BBS coil its probably lighter than the Tornado 10 inch.I had a BBS 10 inch with the shorten cord and thought it worked well, but the Slim line 10 inch is better. To save weight and still have decent depth the Coinsearch coil would be a good choice. The Slim Line Tornado 800 or 7 1/4 inch coil will save weight and give better target separation good depth and is water proof.Again the BBS 10 inch coil with the shortened cord and with the scuff cover removed will be lighter than the 10 inch Tornado coil. The straight shaft asm will improve the balance and weight transfer my opinion from driving like a dump truck to a sports car.Good Luck Ron

Here are some facts for you to consider:

Sun Ray S-8 (8"waterproof coil) weighs 19oz and goes as deep as the 10" BBS (also waterproof) which weighs 26oz (7oz more is alot at the end of the rod)

Minelab's 8" Coinsearch Coil weighs 19.5oz and is a great coil but is not waterproof

Minelab's 10" Tornado Coil weighs 23.9oz and is waterproof

My favorite coil is the S-8 and I hipmount my GT & Sov XS. My straight rod setup with the S-8 weighs less than 2 pounds.

Thanks everyone for your valuable insight. As usual, this forum is a reunion point of quality treasure hunters.

I'm not sure that I will buy a second coil for my Sov. It's a little trouble and too much expense for what I really need. I will be looking for an extention cord for my coil instead, which will end-up to a similar use and significant saving.

Thanks again,

Charles
