hiya guys,,,the audio in the headphones stopped working,,,and the machine still worked,,,changed batteries,,now nothing works,,,,speaker or headphones,,,and because i cant hear a thing ,,,the machine could be totalled,,,,has had only 30 hrs use max,,,but two years old,,,and i dont have a 3 yr warranty like they brought in 2010,,,,,,has anyone any idea if its a connector problem,,as after only 25-30 hours use these machines shouldnt be going wrong,,,and if so minelab should stand by their products a little closer,,the minimum charge for looking at it is

First thing is if you changed the batteries and it quite working I would make sure the batteries are good and if you put in the alkaline pack make sure all the batteries are in the right directions and they are good batteries. Next the audio problem may just be the headphones themselfs as it is probably the most common complaint I have seen is they work on another detector, but not the Sovereign, or they worked last time I used them. Most headphones work either stereo or mono and have a switch to switch back and forth, now if a wire gets broke it will not work on the Minelabs and just may work on another detector. Also many time that switch will get turned the other way and also wont work. So check the batteries to make sure everything it right there and if you find one that is the wrong way that would cause it not working at all, also see the connection is right(I take it is a Sovereign GT if only a couple years old). If this is the problem and it starts working then try some different headphone.

I second what rick is saying , i took a hammer to my musketeer only to find out it was the alkaline battery pack was a bit lose its probly that make sure the batterys are all snug and look at the side panels connectors the rechargable is less of a problem and i always tape the seems so no dirt gets in

Your headphone jack on the box could be bad or a wire disconnected from the jack. That could be the cause for the symptoms you described especially if you checked and rechecked by inserting and removing the headphone plug.
If you feel confident about opening the box, it couldn't hurt to check the wires going to the jack and/or the jack itself since the warranty is expired.

thanks guys,,i tried both sets of phones that previously worked before,,,jolly rodjers,,and koss dm30,,the machine connections to the jack are spot on,,,i think maybe i will check that the centre connection is clean,,as it connects the spkr,,when the jack is out and dis-connects when the jack is in to turn the phones on or off,,,,thanks for the input ,,,will let you know,,,:nopity:
