Sovereign and Spectra V3 targets cross check with surprising results.

Yesterday's search was at a small town park that had lots of trash, but still a potential of finding some keepers.RJ invited me and on the drive he explained his last time trip here he found a silver dime an IH and a Franklin Half.I brought both the Sovereign and Explorer for the hunt.Four consecutive hunts with the Explorer my shoulder and arm need a break. After twenty minutes of digging some trash and a deep wheat I switched to the Sovereign, with the weight and balance difference my shoulder and arm fatigue was much better.I started working on 180 meter signals to see if the park would give up any silver. The coil used was the 800 BBS 7 1/4 inch coil and again I was pleased with the depth and separation of this underrated small coil.On one of the signals I got a deep 180 wiggle on and asked Rick to cross check the target with his V3.After checking the target Rick said it was more than likely trash, but from my passed experience with the Sovereign gave my prediction its probably a wheat or silver.A 1934 wheat penny was recovered and ended the debate.Well one more target check on another 180 wiggle, which I didn't want to interrupt Ricks hunt to much.Again predictions was made V3 says trash and the Sovereign a coin the final result a 1974 Canadian dime down about 7 inches.Anyway we hunted for about three hours with only one silver coin found a 1960D Roosevelt with the Sovereign.HH Ron

So much for modern technology in the V3:clapping:

Hey Ron nice report. Ive always found the minelabs to be the best at IDing targets, especially down deep.

I gotta tell you that sov rig sure looks like a workout too:surprised:, looks like it would be as heavy to swing as the explorer. Have you ever tried the Sunray X8 on the Explorer? it really lightens it up and still gets good depth/coverage/seperation.

Neil, tried the X8 coil on the Explore ll I had and got a lot of hot rock readings, though I did have some success I found some keepers.I did notice a difference in weight but still the unit is on the heavy side. I used the 5x10 Joey coil also.I like the Explorer and will continue to work around the ergonomics and weight, later I will pickup another smaller coil .The Sovereign looks heavy but is balanced for me better, which is much easier to swing for an extended period of time. Thanks for the advice.Ron

Kered,in defence of the Spectra V3 Rick is a new user.Though I was surprised the Sovereign IDed at a greater depth with the smaller 800 BBS coil than the V3 with the larger coil.HH Ron

Whatever comes along in the future i still think the Sovereign is one of the best detectors ever made, but obviously the user plays a big part in the success
