Sovereign AM/Disc question

Most times the all metal sound level is lower than when in discriminate. On small items I can barely hear the tone in all metal. Is this normal? It doesn't seem right. I wonder if the AM/Disc switch needs replacing?

I experience that my discrimimation is louder and deeper than AM. And my detector is only 4 months old.

I have found for me that the disc is louder signals and also deeper, but this can be my hearing as I can hear the tones change better than the threshold increasing. Many weak tones of a good Target when I switch to all meter to pinpoint I find i am unable to hear it and have to go back to disc to find the target and work my way around it to pinpoint it.

My new GT goes deeper in DISC than AM.

I save the AM for mineralised ground when the DISC will constantly null.

On some really deep targets I can get a good tone in DISC but not even a wimper in AM.

I have good hearing but for me it's DISC on the beach unless there are black sands.

Tony.

if you do the search here you will find that this question has been asked before. i find that depending on the ground sometimes the am is deeper, and other times disc is deeper. experiment, when you have a deeper target (which you can tell with the help of the pinpoint mode for example) switch between disc and am and you will see for yourself how it changes under different soil conditions. as for the disc being louder, i initially also had this impression. first, in case you do not have the volume on max, then turn it to max. i noticed then am is actually louder (threshold volume) that way. when you are not used to am then it might seem strange at first, because the disc can seem more distinct in how the target sounds, while am can be described as a continuous threshold that changes over targets. but when you spend some time with it you will earn to listen to it and will be able to identify targets well. proper ground balance is crucial for am mode, you want a stable threshold so you hear all changes well.
good luck and hh !

I find that disc mode gets an extra punch in audio over regular am search audio. Pinpoint volume seems about half way in between.
That's my observation on audio. Nothing to do with depth.......just audio loudness on any given target.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry, I should have gone through all the old posts first. I agree with everthing said here. Some targets are are difficult to pinpoint, but usually the coins/good targets sound enough to hear even if they are deeper. Maybe I need an amp.
