ok i admit i am lazy and havent got out to harbor freight to buy cheap volt meter but my question is if you look at the pick does that mean center is positive and when i get a new battery it should also have a positive center ??

n/t

Yep, according to that pictorial the center is positive. On most devices that's the way it always is, but I have seen the polarity reversed on those DIN plugs for some things in the past, which goes against all common sense laws of the nature of a ground trace in most circuits. Usually the larger trace line on a circuit board at the outer edges is the ground.
