sov xs and wot coil

so i finally got out with my new/used wot coil, tried it on the beach and shallow water first, ok so first thing i am noticing is that it is heavy and seems off balance, well took it down by the water, low tide of course, and even in those little waves it got thrown around at times i had to pull it out of the water just to control it,well after getting frustrated doing that tried the wet sand then ended up on dry sand, so my first impression is i like the coil but it is heavy, never tried hip mounting it, but up on dry sand this thing was amazing, very deep, clad down to 10 maybe 12 ", now the beach i was on is a public beach but i never got a signal anywhere near the water, the dry sand yes got signals not many but a few clad coins, my one problem with this coil seems to be pinpointing, i am use to the original 8" coin search coil that came with it and that coil can pinpoint , damn this is starting to look like one of critterhunters posts, lol, no offense buddy, nothing but great info from your posts....well second time out took the wot to a park here in town just to see what it would do, and it did ok, i hate digging crap out of the ground at 10 or so inches but i am still trying to learn this machine ,ok so back to pinpointing can anybody tell me where exactly the coil is pinpointing from ? is it right under the shaft mount or in front of that, seems to me to be all over at times but only in the park, on the beach nice and slow swing and i am hearing things that i didnt ever think would be that deep, so theres my story an hoping for a little help on pinpointing and also balancing it out a little seems coil heavy, yes i know there are posts for that to read and i will, ok i think i am done well maybe one more stupid post or a message to critter, not sure yet, thanks guys for all help and so much friggin reading, lol, larry in new jersey

I've read of some WOT guys who say it pin points well for them, so you probably just need more practice. But, I do remember reading one tip that I think was from from Coiltek that said you can also flip the coil up on it's side and pinpoint with the rim of the coil.

If you find that coil is moving up and down on the shaft in the water, I have read where some will drill out the bolt hole on the shaft and the coil and then use a bigger nylon bolt and nut from home improvement stores meant for toilets.

How is it's drag in the water? Excessive for your tastes or not bad? I found the 15x12, due to it's square(ish) shape, was more drag than I cared for in the water. Haven't tried my 12x10 in the water yet to judge it's drag compared to my 10" Tornado.

well as far as the drag goes i thought it was a loot but this is the first waterproof coil i have ever used so nothing to compare to and as far as pinpointing,it was fine on the beach but in the park it seemed to be all over sometimes plus a lot of noise , never seemed to calm down unless i went into auto sensitivity

Maybe you were near some bad EMI? My 15x12, like my 12x10, was very stable and often would run at full blast sensitivity at sites where the stock coil couldn't. More often than not I can run sensitivity cranked completely all the way up in manual with the 12x10 and the machine is still rock solid stable. Almost to the point of happening so much that I wonder if there is an internal way to adjust the window of sensitivity higher so my external control can turn it up higher. I doubt you could do that via some internal pot adjustment though, and I wouldn't risk playing with that even if there was one. It's not like I can ride it full blast with the 12x10 at every site, but sure does seem to ride higher than the stock coil at most of my sites, and often that is even at max manual (all the way counterclockwise before clicking into Auto).
