I was scouring my back yard again today after the soaking rain we had, hoping to find deep silver but found shallow silver instead. LOL The funny thing about this Barber dime was it was an old plug from last week that I left by mistake. What happened was I had cut the plug, scanned the hole (no signal) then scanned the bottom of the plug and heard iron so I removed the nail and put the plug back. Almost did the same thing only THIS time I scanned the TOP of the plug and it was in there only about an inch or two but it must have been on an angle (maybe perfectly perpendicular) because it wasn't a strong loud signal. Even though it didn't scream, I knew it was the soft high whine of silver and the 180 reading confirmed that! It's a 1905, my first Barber and only my 2nd silver of the year. It's pretty tarnished but I'll take it! I KNEW there was older silver here somewhere judging by the dates on the wheats and IHs I've been digging. This came out of some REALLY bad junky sounding ground with ash and stuff in the hole. I have to dig all signals because last week I dug a shallow IH only 1-2" in the ground that rang up a solid 176. Of course I DID dig a couple of zincs at 176 that where shallow but I'm not passing them up anymore because the coins are at all different depths in this yard. I'm starting to wonder if fill was brought in at one time or another. ***PS: The CoinSearch coil has been and will always be my favorite all around coil to use with the Sovereign. Honestly, I don't want to dig any deeper than this bad boy is hittin' 'em! And it is AWESOME in the trash to boot! What more could you ask for? I made sure to run silicone caulk around the cord opening and also did the coil cover as well so I wouldn't have to keep removing it for cleaning. If I get it a little wet, I won't have to worry now as they are getting scarce to find. HH! George
