sov sx

I assume your talking about the SOV XS ...........Its a great machine, from where I sit its all pros with that machine ......In my opinion the XS is the second best In the sovereign seires ......Great machine you have !!!!!!!!!

Like Adam says the XS is one of the better Sovereigns, it has the plug in rechargeable battery, but be careful when you disconnect it from the detector so you don't break the wire. If it still has the original coil the Coinsearch that is the white one it has the best coil to learn the Sovereign with I feel.
The Sovereigns are one of the best detectors out there and to this day they will still beat their big brother the Explorer in some places, but there is a learning curve and some don't take the time to learn it and sell the Sovereign. Those that take the time to learn this detector with the different tones and understand them will find the Sovereign will get the non ferrous finds the others have missed.
If you don't have a meter I do recommend them to help learn the Sovereign.

Good luck and if you have a question we have many here that can answer them. Remember the Sovereign hates iron, speed kills depth so you have to go slow with this detector as it sees so much. The more you use it the more you will understand, so this isn't a detector that will do good sitting in the closet.

Not really improved upon until the GT and you have to pay for the slight increase in sensitivity by digging a little more iron so its swings and roundabouts.
If you don't like hip mounting buy a straight shaft and rear mount the control box. It then feels really light.
Beware the solid white coil if its supplied. I preferred it to the later 800 coil but its not waterproof. It will take rain O.K. but start forcing it down in a rock pool and your asking for trouble.

GREAT . I feel really good about the purchase , I did buy a straight shaft for it this morning. Thanks for all the good input . I'm also going switch the coil out to waterproof coil. I beach hunt for the most part... Guzz1

I had mine since 1997 and it was my favorite detector. A word of caution though, this unit is obsolete according to Minelab. Mine died about a month ago, I sent is in for repairs and Minelab said it was the main chip. They also said they no longer have the chip available so the unit is now worthless.
I just purchased a Sov XS 2a Pro on ebay to replace it. You outbid me on your Sov. As far as I know the pro chip is still available.

HEY DAN Thanks for the info Sorry about out bidding you But I couldn't afford a Gt just now with Christmas at our throats . I'm gonna get a Gt so stay in touch after the first of the year I could be selling this one ... Guzz1

No problem Guzz. I sure wish my Sov hadn't diedthough. That was and probably always will be my favorite detector. My only disappointment is that Minelab quit providing parts for it so soon.
I managed to get the Sov XS 2a Pro that was auctioned off just after the one you bought. The XS and the pro are nearly identical. The pro has freqency shift for interference though.
I have had the Explorer II and currently have the Extera but the Sov is still the best in my book.
Take good care of your unit and it will make some excellent finds.
Good luck and happy hunting.
Dan

Guzz, the 800 Slim Line Tornado coil is water proof, light, great separation and will give you a faster sweep than the 1000 coil.A first time Sovereign user should go with this coil. The pinpointing is excellent with this coil gives a silk smooth operation even with the sensitivity maxed. The 10 inch will give you better depth but the 800 will still respond to dimes at nine inch plus. The 10 inch Tornado will perform better but not for a beginner. The Sunray Probe and 180 meter will make your Sovereign XS unbeatable performance wise.Good luck with the XS,which is my favorite metal detector.
