Sov problem help needed

Piero franchi

New member
Hi Guys

Many years ago, I bought a NEW Sov xs2a pro, sold it in time,
anyway,
I just bought a second hand Sov xs2a pro on Flea bay,
well I am prity sure its not working 100%

It works in as it finds what ever you pass under the coil, but I feel also picking up outside radio signals or something.

I can turn the detector on, away from any metal objects, and it will start sounding off (coil held off the ground)

with the coil held to the ground, it a LOT better, but its not right.

I have been detecting for some 20 odd years, and you know that feeling you get when things aint right???? well I am getting it LOL

Ebay seller is not playing ball,

But leaving a reture to seller aside for now, Could this be a simple fix?????

The detector came with two BBs coils, 8 & 10 inch, I went out and bought a wot 15 inch coil as well, funny enough, the problem is far worse with the 8 inch than the 15 wot.

I am no idiot when it comes to a soldering iron, and am MORE than happy to relace a part if only some one can say and point to what to replace.

as I am going to open said box, apart from a seperate pin point switch, what other mods may I as well do.

Many thanks

Piero,it may be a coil problem? With Ebay usually a buyer can get a full refund with no questions asked if you're not happy or suspect its not working right or as described. Not often, but I have shipped detectors back to sellers with no problems and had full support from both Ebay and Paypal, with a fast refund. My suggestion ask for a refund if you're not happy with your purchase.Good Luck Ron

Its not thd coil. As a just bought a new coiltex coil for it.
It does the same thing with the original bbs 8 and 10 inch coils.

As to ebay. I am in the process if filling for a refund.
Seller is trying to say I must have caused it somehow.

To me. The detector is picking up on radio waves. Its just a hunch baised on no evidence

HI, HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR SENSITIVITY SETTINGS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS. AND OUT AWAY FROM ANY ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES. I'VE SEEN MY GT FALSE WITH SENSITIVITY TURNED UP TOO MUCH. JUST A THOUGHT. HOPE YOU HAVE SUCCESS-MARK

Mark,

That is what I am thinking too that the sensitivity is set too high for that area. I would run in auto sensitivity and see what happens, then if still there I would lower it all the way clockwise to the minimum sensitivity and see if it is still there, if not then it is probably a too high of sensitivity. One thing I have also done, but not sure it is good for it as I will disconnect the coil from the control box and turn it on just for a second or 2 to see if it still has some interference, if it does there is something wrong with the control box, if not it has to be in the coil or cable or anything added to that circuit like a meter or a in line probe.
I sold a Sovereign that was used to a guy and I had used it myself so I know it worked good, but he kept saying it chatters too much and got no depth, so I took him out with it and first thing I seen was he was swinging way too fast as he was using a Ace 250 before, then I seen where his chatter was actually the threshold coming and going from the targets it sees.

Rick

Mark, it looks like you are doing well with my old GT and hope it even does better too.

I did true the detector in auto. But it was still the same.

Yes turning the sensitivity fully clockwise does settle things down.
But to be honest. Should I have to just to get it to work.

Its totally not a coil issue as its a brand new coil and the two older coils do the same.

I have no meters fitted and all connection are good.

Still welcome ALL your thoughts. I am taking them in

Your Problems might be electromagnetic interference (EMI) if you are in close proximity to high voltage electrical lines.
