Sov GT vs/CTX 3030:clapping::help::nopity:

Has anyone compared these two machines ?? I have a Sov GT, but is thinking about a CTX 3030. What is the main difference between these two machines.?? The CTX is expensive, but is it worth the money, compared to the GT ?? The Sov GT is one of the best detectors ever made ( my opinion), so why would a GT- owner change to the CTX ????.
HELP, please convince me, I want a CTX !!!!!!!!

Thanks, Roald.

Relax........One thing about treasure...It will aways be there...I'm setting this temptation out for a few years..

The GT is not water proof...... The CTX 3030 is water proof, the 3030 is FBS and the GT is BBS ..... Basically if your never going to hunt in the water, just keep your GT as it's the best (non water proof) Beach finding machine out there nothing can beat it.

I think the verdict is yet be rendered on the CTX.

I have read tons of post's on the forum's and it's getting mixed reviews.

Since you already have a GT why not go with an Excal and save yourself $1000.00?:detecting:

I use an Exp SE on the beach like Max. The FBS is very sensitive and maybe to sensitive to minerals near or in the water. It appears even with the faster processor, different coils, multi target TID, and IM capabilities it still struggles with falsing issues. I dont know that BBS is the best on the beach..... i do pretty well if the targets are there to dig. I think some are trying to find that one machine that does it all. It isnt out there right now. But this machine is leading us down the path. I believe they felt FBS is better in more difficult mineralized soil. I think its a dirt diging improvement..... that can be used on the beach or water. BUT i still think less expensive machines designed for beach hunting .... right tool for the job..... arent going to be blown away by this machine. Its like PI or Xcal Id say a lot will depend on how often you use the 3030 for what type of detecting. I felt the SE gave me a fair shot as an all around.... but this one goes in the water. At $1800 i might have considered it.

I'm still reading, watching, and waiting myself, but as you said I'm seeing mixed reviews so I continue to watch...

As far as BBS versus FBS on certain beaches and even mineralized land sites, I'll just say on my mineralized beaches and on my mineralized land sites I prefer BBS for certain reasons. Rather than tell you why, I'll just tell you to search the FBS forums as well as this forum for those who own both BBS & FBS and hear what at least some of them have to say. Two of the topics they talk about revolve around stability/smoothness and thus depth in certain mienralized soils/sands, but there are a few others such as the quality or "robustness" of the audio on certain objects at depth such as gold rings. I'm not telling you who, what, when, or where in terms of BBS or FBS or giving you my open opinion. I'm simply saying search and read for yourself and make your own mind up.

Search those forums for Sovereign, Excalibur, Beach, gold rings, BBS, and so on and read and form your own opinion. Some say one thing, while I'd say more say another that I have experienced myself. Also search this forum for the FBS machines as some have voiced those opinions here as well. Just recently (maybe a month or two ago) there was a guy discussing the Ultimate 13" coil on his Sovereign who bought one and built a clone of it himself. He had some very interesting things to say on this topic, and it's not the first time I've heard this, and it jives with what I've experienced *in my soil and sand*. Maybe it's not the same for others everywhere.

For water hunting up to my belly button I just chest mount my GT and away I go. It was designed for that, thus the long coil cables. For divers the Xcal is dive raited while many other machines out there are not. When you're water hunting it's pretty much hear and dig, so I leave the VDI off my GT for that, and Xcal users just need a few simple controls to get the job done. Beyond sensitivity and threshold adjustment there really isn't much more needed. In fact, for land hunting that's all I really need too. All I really care about besides raw depth and good long/detailed audio with tone alerts for unmasking and such, is a good high resolution VDI, and the GT has that. Sure, the 10" Tornado does a great job at left/right separation and depth. Probably the best large DD coil in that size I've ever used in those two respects, until along came the 12x10...and made depth and separation even better. I'm a happy camper myself until I see something come along that drops my jaw in better depth/separation. Still waiting for that...

There is no way anyone or any machine that runs on FBS can convince me it,s better then BBS what i have is just fine for finding relics and coins and bling in the ground and Salt Water BEACH !! period.. Jim :super:

Any Minelab machine will work great on the beach or in most any environment. I have done very well with my Excallibur in and out of the water. The E-Trac with the WOT is very good. This day and time about any machine will produce nice finds if the operator knows how to use it. The key as everyone knows is to get your coil over a target and dig it. I have the CTX 3030 and it is by far the best at locating targets in trash that I have used. But I have'nt sold my E-Trac or Excall they still have a place. Take your GT and with a little luck you will find the good stuff. HH :minelab:

Thanks for all of your inputs. It has been very helpful for me. Now I will keep my GT, and forget the CTX for a while.
Thanks. HH to all of you. Roald.

I have a CTX 3030 and have just about 70 hrs hunt time with it. It will not replace my Excalibur or GT all three will have there place in the quest for ________? For those hunting the beaches the CTX 3030 reacts to the waves more than the GT or Excal. It will not stabilize in the wash . Others have got it better than I. I have not tried all the combo's of settings. I have not dug any target that the GT or Excal would not have found. It may just be me but I accually think I might be missing targets that tend to be deep. While I have fixed the headphone problem many have had. I can finally hear the threshold in the surf with out over blasting it. I am not sure I will everhear a threshold break I get with the Excalibur.I am still confused about the test I have run in my 20yr old coin garden. My GT and Excal. can hear most of the targets buried. The CTX has a really tough go of hearing any. I really wish I could share more info on that but I have lost the info key to the garden and really don't know what coins are at what depth or angle. Do they make a detector to find lost paper? I say i will need several months of testing before I can really make a call either way.

I've been checking the 3030 out and it interests me what the early adopters are reporting. I got to hold one last week that one of our club members & forum participants had just received. I like the balance and the sensitivity to multiple targets in close proximity. I haven't used one hunting yet. The list of features is impressive and I'm always looking to see how useful people think they are.
I'd like to know what Minelab recommends for dissassembly, flushing / rinsing after saltwater immersion.
The reactiveness to waves washing over it concerns me as I need to really hear the threshold and drop outs.
I lost out Saturday nite on an Excal with waterproof connectors and a WOT. Last second of the auction argh! I have missed two of these since last fall. I read the setup instructions for the waterproof connectors on Doc's web site.
I'm taking my GT for a long walk over the wet sand Tuesday. I'm really happy with the performance in that environment. The 15"x12" SEF works great. Sure wish I landed that excal to round out my H2O selections. Enough of my rambling thoughts. I'll report my finds from tomorrows outing.

I have the an Exacl and an E Trac. For me it's about using the right tool for the job. I tried the E Trac on the beach last week and it just didn't feel right. So on the beach it's BBS and in the parks FBS and I love them both :twodetecting:
Plus for me I don't need to worry about getting the Excal wet, of course not an issue with the CTX.

i have had the SOV GT for 2 years. Its a fantastic machine i have a super disk 2 setting its a very slow detector but my god its deep on the beach and in land.
AS for the CTX well i have only had that a few weeks using male beach settings i am getting the same depths if not deeper with the CTX its more heavy. I love how its very well balanced target response recovery is a lot faster than the GT and after talking to the guys at minelab you can program the GT with in the CTX as its got the tech to do so. If you can't afford a CTX get a GT Its got better tech than exceliber 2 i am dyslexic i don't care :)

hi jim i had the GT for 2 years the CTX will work faster and the depth on wet sand is the same if not deeper than the GT The ctx hits smaller targets at grater depths i have tested them both then sold the GT
