Sov GT Sweep Speed

Greetings Pirates,

There isn't any instruction in the manual as to sweep speed for the Sov GT. The instructions for the Whites Dual Field as to sweep speed are clearly indicated . It reads, if you sweep the loop in a five foot swath in front of you, you should be able to count, one-hundred-and-one. I've understood that PI machines required a slower sweep speed that the VLF's. I've watched many a VLF hunter on the beach and they're zipping along quite nicely. I keep reading here to "slow down and listen carefully." My beach tactics (with the DF), especially at low tide have been to grab the shaft as far back as I can a and make a very wide sweeps closer to 8', and move along, to cover as much ground as possible. I find that I'm able to find the zones much quicker than if I were to mosey along at a snails pace. Also, no mention of the Sovereign Wiggle that I've seen mentioned on this forum, what's that?

From what I've read about the Sov GT on this and other forums, I'm really looking forward to mastering this detector.

Regards,
Surfpro

Sweep speed is usually dictated by the amount of trash, type of ground etc, on the wide open beach i would say as a start about 4 seconds from one side to other at most, maybe a little faster if in all metal once you know the detector a little better. Listening to the detectors response will let you know if your going too fast.
the wiggle is a very slight side to side motion(max 2" or so) over a deep target to get the detector to lock on, quite often a null or broken target will change to a good one, you also have the backward wiggle whch can be used to pinpoint, same movement but drawing the coil slowly backwards, the moment it stops pinging the target it is just in front of the coil inline with the centre line, personaly i prefer the imaginary cross method, the forward wiggle is the same but obviously the object is just behind the coil, the backward and forward wiggle can be usefull in the water(excaliburs)

yeah, around 2 feet to 3 feet per second,,or what you find best with your machine,,there all a little different, the other thing i find best on a clean beach is balance in all metal ,,switch to fix,,and keep the sens. as high as you can,,the depth is great,,but also great in disc.,,only the disc. depth seems to run out at around 8-10 inches,,and will sound off on iron if its a larger piece,,,but using man, sens, is the way to go,,giving far more depth in the sand or the ground,,,rgds comcat:ukflag:
