Sov GT sounds in all metal Iron VS highconductors

I just tried the GT in all metal on a dime , and a nail, --and found it is like the Infinium , for example on the nails as you pass the nails you will get a low sound in the middle of the coil and then a high as the rim of the coil passes over the target . then on the dime you will get a high on the center followed by a low as the rim of the coil passes over by this i can tell Iron from high conductors , i thought that only in disq could you tell the diffrence , any one else notice this ?

I know that on all my Sovereigns that the Disc. was always deeper.......But seeing that the Sovereign & the Excalibur are the same detector ...why would your Excal. be deeper . in all metal ?[sub]... I checked out the sound in my Sovereign and did not notice any differance in the sound............ But i also hunt in Disc all the time with the Sovereign it is deeper in Disc........[/sub]

Gunnar are you talking about all metal fixed/tracking or all metal pinpoint, where is your toggle set when your hearing this?

its in all metal fixed, and i took it out to the field today to test my theory, and i was fooled several times its just different in ground when a nails were on thear side i would get the low but if the point of the nails was up i could not tell and i dug a 22 shell in all metal i would have sworn to be a nail oh well anyway i was practicing digging in all metal . As far as depth goes in my ground i get a good clear signal on a dime at 6" and 7" but at 8" it will null or only make a beep one way and thats with the 10" tornado coil but in all metal its just as deep or should i say easere to pinpoint that is all metal fixed , Now in all metal pinpoint somtimes the signal can be way off the point of a nail I also noted that when slightly positive i got better depth especialy on a buried 10" dime , I can say for sure the disq mode is far deeper on the GT than on the musketeer the sand hear is mineralized but let me say the disq ia still deep in this soil but at the 8+ 9" it will null over the dime like its Iron so thats why i like to dig in all metal sometimes if something makes a godd but ify signal i switch into all meta fixed and dig it

in pinpoint all metal the detector adjusts itself to the ground like it does in disc.
notice how the signal is much sharper and refined than in all metal fixed, which has a broader signal like in the disc mode.

sounds like your testing it completely and you will find what works best for you, glad to hear that. To many people take other peoples settings and hunt with them and never really learn what their detector is telling them.

both all metal modes have some tonal variations but not nearly like the disc mode which offers a rich variety of sounds. I wish the all metal mode offered the same audio, but its still alot better than some other detectors in all metal. I prefer the pinpoint mode myself and also use the all metal modes more on my other detectors as I get the better depth with that mode. find out what works best for you and use it:thumbup:

Neil, I just used my GT for the third time today, and in my opion the all metal pinpoint was deeper at the beach in So. Ca. I didn't know about the machine ground balancing in that configuration, and I appreciate you bringing that up. I'm used to the Ace 250's quick tones, so the GT's rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tones is throwing me off right now. The all metal pinpoint modes quicker response is closer to what I am used to, and it would pinpoint right under the label in the center of the coil. The problem is, Obviosly, I am digging every screw, bolt, nut, and piece of wire out there. If I'm going to do that, I might as well use my Headhunter pi and get more depth.

the pinpoint mode is a little more like other detectors with a shorter and sharper response. there are audio variances in it, you might pick up clive clynicks book on the sov/excal as he describes those very well. Its worth getting if your gonna stick with the Sov or eventually go to an excal. I had a HH PI and changing the batteries so often was crazy, I got maybe 8hours tops on two nine volts and Ive read they still do that. Ive got a Whites Dual field now and honestly am thinking of selling it, the excal/sov in all metal pinpoint is just about the same depth, just more versatile machines the minelabs are.
Im in NJ and I used to live out in Van Nuys, never detected then but spent plenty of time at those big beaches that are there:thumbup:
Some damn cold water though, at least here weve got about 3 months of decent water temps.

Mine is deeper in Disc too.

Check with JBow as I think it was him who said you can tell certain things in all metal. There is a cut off point around nickle where targets below that in conductivity will sound one way and ones above that point will sound another...It's in the high/low or low/high tone you get as you pass over it if memory serves.
