Sov GT coil help

diggingdetector

New member
So I have been running my Sov GT with my 180 meter and liking it more and more.

All I have for it is the tornado 10' coil

So 2 questions,

first, what is better for the beach
15x12" SEF or coiltek 15 wot coil or 10' tornado?

Next question
what is better for the parks
8' tornado or s-5 sunray or 8' sunray?

Where I live there are many beaches, white sand with very little mineralization,
inland there are mostly trashy parks, not too many open fields.

Thank you for all your help and suggestions.

Also does anyone know if I can use the mind lab hip mount bag as a cover if it is still on the shaft and not hip mounted?

I am afraid that I can not be of much help. As I have never used the WOT. There are a number of comments on the forums about the Wot and the SEF 12X15. I use the 13" Ultimate or the SEF 10X12 at the beach. Both of these coils work well. Unless parks/playgrounds/totlots are extremely trashy I leave the SEF on the GT. The S-5 is a very small coil and you lose some depth with it. It is also painfully slow detecting due to the small area that it covers.

I like the S-8 in trashy areas and areas of high EMI. The 8" tornado and S-8 are equally good coils. Dont think you could go wrong with either one of them.

I have not had the 10" Tornado on the GT since I got the SEF 10X12.

Ditto above.
Both 8's will serve you well.
The 10 x 12 sef seems to be a tad better in depth and separation than the ten inch tornado.

Check out Coiltek's website. They have two new elliptical coils for the sov- a 5x10 and a 8x12 listed under their treasureseeker series of coils also available for the e series.
They are relatively new and I haven't heard anything substantive about them.
Cheers

Paul welcome to the forum.I like the 800 Tornado, light, deep, separates very well, and gives the user a faster sweep speed and hits very hard on dime size targets.LOL as you know sometimes we can have too many cooks in the kitchen. There are a lot of views and opinions on coil preferences Thanks Ron

To many cooks also tells you that it may come down to location, intended use, hunting style, and preference....... much like machines. Its more having that option over a larger coil when you need it. Smart move having that option. Not having to process that huge amount of targets and soil can sometimes increase depth, TID, and even recovery based on separation.

Dew,I agree, always good to have different opinions on equipment,my apology this statement too many cooks came out wrong.Paul is a Chef and a Author. Thanks Ron

looks like they waterproofed the joey coil and the other one looks like the WOT but with a little redesign. It listed as 8X12 but when you click on it, it states its 15" which is like the WOT.
Coiltek does make a great coil, good quality.

Nice, lots of beaches and no to low mineral content. At the beach either the 15x12" SEF or the WOT will work well to help you cover the area. With either big coil I always use a bungee harness to take the weight off, this way I can concentrate on an even low swing and last all day. The one you can get the best price on might be the one to go with. They are so close in performance with many saying the WOT might have a slight edge on really tiny bits of metal. One popular beach I hit has tiny fragments of copper schrapnel / jacket from 50 cal machine guns thanks to the Army Air Corps using it for target practice. I've dug plenty pinky nail sized and smaller scraps with both.
As for a smaller coil the S8 is my favorite and continues to impress me every time I use it. I haven't used the 8" tornado myself and as you see it is equally endorsed by others. Without rambling further - one coil smaller and one coil larger than the stock 10" will help you get the most out of your Sov.

Good luck to ya.

I tried the 15x12 and didn't care for it. The 13" Ultimate is an awesome coil on the beach or open fields, very light, stable and sensitive .I also like my 8" and 10" Tornado coils. But , for me, it's the 10x12 SEF that's a killer and is rarely taken off my machine.

I agree. When I owned my GT, the 10 x 12 SEF was my go to coil on land and beach.

The 13" Ultimate is my favorite beach coil. Can order it in black also from manufacturer off EBay. Very light weight compared to WOT and SEF's

The one thing I really don't care for on the Ultimate coil is the thickness of the ears for the bolt. They seem very thin. I like the White coil myself.
