Sov gt big coil question...

I need a big coil for the beach......The 15" wot for 279$ or the 15x12 sef for 189$ ????? Strictly on the beach......

I read the sef is easier to pinpoint, but im used to digging big holes....

The WOT is the heaviest coil on the market while the 15x12 is lighter than the stock 10" Tornado if you remove the coil cover. The WOT has slightly more coverage width wise while the 15x12 has slightly more coverage from tip to tail, which is where coverage really counts as far as I'm concerned. Some say the SEF is more stabile at higher sensitivity settings and less prone to falsing. Personaly I would opt for the SEF but there are many WOT lovers out there.

I am one of those W.O.T lovers :)

I used the S.E.F ( borrowed) and the excelerator ( not impressed , constant re-balance)

The W.O.T by far is superior , in my opinion. I personally dug quarters at beach ( supertuning ) at depth to elbow. It is extremely sensitive and not effected by beach minerals.
The other large coil I use is the sunray s-12 ( very good coil ). Many hunters whether excel users or sovereign " change " up to W.O.T.

My was around $ 209 , it is the best investment besides my detector pro headphones , I have made.

I beach hunt 90% of the time I go metal detecting . And use the large coil primarily. The tornado 10" is my backup in areas that allow me to work without such a hot coil.
Don't misjudge the capabilities of the tornado. I work the wet and the dry with it too. The large W.O.T doesn't seem as heavy as others claim.
I can detect hours with no problems. I do not use a cover , the epoxy base is fine .... And I don't " scrub " my coil on the sand like I see others do . I have seen guys swinging same loop with cover and " fifty pounds " of sand / muck all over coil . As I detect the sweet spot of wet ( between wet and dry ) I purposely left coil rinse itself at water .

No other coil at the beach will be more evident. It has paid for itself ten times over. I went over same grid of sand as one hunter recently with a Bigfoot coil ( actually had one with a dfx) and we talked briefly . He went on , BUT I back tracked at his dug areas and gridded OVER with the W.O.T . He cleaned up the recent drops and clad up to I estimate 6" by the depth of one of the holes ( sneaky :nopity: ) and proceeded to rescan area . I tripled the amount of dug targets. Pulling an average 9" to around 13/15" on some coins .

I ALWAYS recheck dug areas with this coil ........

You will not be disappointed :beers:

I have to agree with Darkflamedesign on the WOT coil. I have personally contacted a few longtime metal detectorist and put this same question to them. Between the Coiltek 15" WOT and the SEF 12" x 15" Coil for the Sovereign GT. Most of the Old Timers recommended the WOT Coil. The only problem is trying to locate one right now. They seem to be backordered everywhere.

Good Luck & hh,

George

wot for me everytime also there must only be a few grams between the wot and the sef so the weight hardly make any difference it's how the coil proforms that counts

Both the WOT and 12X15 SEF are to heavy for me to swing any decent length of time and Im not a fan of the swingy thingy or anything like that so I dont use either anymore. I will say though the WOT is easier to move through the water because of its shape. The flat sides of the SEF coils makes for resistance underwater, so if your wading with it, consider that. Performance wise, they are both about the same. The WOT coil has one beefy cable on it also, dont know if that translates to longer life or not, but theyve been around alot of years and you rarely ever hear of them failing.

Minelab 10" Tornado Coil with cover and stem 890gram 31.38 oz.................Coiltek 15" WOT coil with cover and stem 979 gram 34.53oz. not much difference in weight.
Sovereign control housing enclosed in clear plastic bag with wireless headphones transmitter and chest mounted make a capable combination for a water hunting to 3ft on a calm day.
I choose Coiltek WOT, it is our home-brand and easy to get from our local dealer just up the road.

With regards to pinpointing the detector Pro Uni-probe headphones work really well with the Sovereign and is a pin pointer probe.
