Here is the thing i read somewhere ? that if i discharged my battery completely and re-charged it for 18 hours it is good for the battery is this true ? 2.5 years ago i purchased my GT and i have hunted with it a lot sometimes all day out in large fields for 3 days in a row each night go home and charge it for say 7 or 8 hours and go out hunting all day again so on so on , the thing is never once in 2.5 years has my GT battery gone completely dead maybe a little weak by end of day , so is what i did ok ? it took 9 hours to kill the battery here at home i plugged in the HP,s turned the volume up max sensitivity max and threshold max i had to put a pillow over the head phones man that hum will drive ya crazy  i have 2 back up battery packs the same thing but rarely used them , any comments welcome thanks Jim

Hey Jim. If you check out one of my recent posts you will get some good info that may help you regarding your GT battery. I'm going to try the car tail light bulb trick to totally drain my battery and then charge for 18 hours. Lately I've only been getting about 3 hours run time regardless of how long I charge it. Good luck and HH. Matt

Thanks Matt i found the post you made that sounds a lot quicker then the way i did it ill remember that next time Jim

ive also only ran my three year old batteries to empty once or twice...i use mine alot during certain times of the year.....never had a problem either..i do know that i have had many cordless drills thru the years and if they are used regularly the batteries last a long long time but if they are not used for several months they never seem to hold a good charge ever again....

People assume Nicads only had memory problems. They did, but modern nicads don't really stuff this. Nimhs never did. HOWEVER, both nicads and nimhs when excercised will GREATLY expand their capacity (meaning run time). You need to drain them dead (car tail light buld works great...After the bulb goes out let it sit that way for another 20 minutes or so to make sure all cells are flat). Once dead, don't let it sit that way for days as that can cause a reverse polarity problem. Charge right away. Do this cycle 4 or 5 times. Much longer run times will come about. If you have an aftermarket charger, charge at 1C during this 3 to 5 or so time cycle to break down any crystals that can also shorten run time/capacity. Actually, many say to blast at like 3 to 5C (3 to 5 times capacity in terms of amp rate)...BUT, I NEVER will do that for more than a minute or two. You are risking explosion or fire! 1C should do the job (1 hour charge time). Not needed for sure to increase capacity of pack to do 1C or higher. The simple excercising via bulb/slow charging will probably fix things.
