Coming to the experts on the site to learn more about the button I dug in my yard today! It's dented and the back Is really rusted. It's smaller than a penny... Thank you!

Probably a cuff or vest button, judging by your description. If by rusted you mean the back is steel or tin, then it wouldn't probably be a Civil War button. Maybe post was.
