Sound of a Minelab Excalibur when the batteries go

Waterdog

I have had a Minelab Excalibur for many years and never heard it. Or at least I do not think I have. The sound of a battery on it's way out or a dead battery.
I had a younger guy come up to me the other day and ask me " How do you know when the battery is getting low or need to change it as there is no meter in a Excalibur"? "Every time I head out to the water I think I am going to have a dead battery" I never heard it and could not answer the guy.
I looked around on the net and could not find the answer to this question.

Mine starts give kind of a HIGH zip sound like you just went over a huge target.

Get a multi meter at Harbor Freight. Sometimes you can get them for free if you have the right coupon.
Check your batteries, easy peasy.

Once you have heard it squall at you it becomes obvious. The sound is hard to describe. It will repeat itself at a predictable interval. I usually charge my battery after every use but on rare occasion I might go detecting twice on the same charge.

yup that's it. Its a squelch that comes around every 30seconds or so just before it goes into a constant unadjustable threshold. Its one annoying noise.
