Sound of a deep coin signal?

bottlebum

New member
I was hoping someone could tell me whether a deep coin (6 or more inches) will give a solid signal or a broken signal? I understand that if a coin is on edge or close to a piece of junk that it can give off a broken signal. I'm more concerned about your average, lying flat coin.

I have been getting some signals that are small and broken that read on the dime/Quarter ID and pretty deep on the scale and i'm afraid to dig a deep hole, in a park, for a chunk of aluminum.lol!

Sorry but I am still new to this machine and havn't dug a deep coin yet. I'm wondering if I might be passing them up by not digging the signals mentioned. I keep waiting for faint, solid tones.

Thanks, bottlebum

6" Depending on GB and minerals and machine settings, In most situations you will here a good hit signal, unless the coin is near trash or deeper..The F75 Hits hard, A good set of headphones is
needed for best performance..I have found..

Thanks! I swap back and forth between my Sunray Pro Gold and Gray Ghost Ultimate's. They both seem to perform well with my Sovereign and the F-75. I do however prefer the Gray Ghost/ Sovereign combo.

I've dug a goodly number of coins in the 6-9" range and most sounded pretty clear and unbroken. By the same token, some were nearby a trash item and both targets, of course, sounded off. Some of the few coins that I have dug over 9" were one way signals, but still sounded good, one way. Although I do glance at the vdi reading, the sound first and foremost is my determination to dig. I mostly hunt in 3h and some dp tones and if I get a high tone hit, I carefully investigate it. I suggest you bite the bullet, so to speak, and carefully dig some of those deeper sounding targets for learning what the F75 is actually saying. Good luck and HH jim tn

Thanks Jim......you're right, I need to be a man about it and dig. I think I need to get a shovel with a longer blade.:smoke:

I got out today with mine and hit a 2 way signal. I have not been digging any if I don't get good sounds all 4 ways, but I dug this one today and it was a small button back at about 6" in a mess of iron. It was hitting some hit numbers in the 70's. That is the only reason I dug it. Plus it was the only signal I got today also, but I know now I have miss alot of good stuff by not digging these. If you have you dis. down low and get a good sound, but not a good number it will be a flat piece of iron or something like that. The best Discrimination I have found is a shovel and an eyeball. They work every time

I dont know about 6-9 inches, maybe 4 on a dime. I took mine out today with a friend that has an SE. We hunted for 9 hours at a park that isnt hunted much due to its location but me and Greg aint skeered. We started out finding regular crap, clad and bottle caps (those F****** bottle caps) I didnt get a signal past 6. This park is on Sanborn Maps from 1907. Now before I go further, I did have a pretty good day. Found over 60 coins with 2 of them being wheaties, a huge pocket spill with 2 halfs and pennies, and my oldest coin to date which is a 189? V nickel. It was found at 4 inches near a clad quarter i dug out. Greg was hitting signals at 6-8 inches with his SE. He got a good signal and told me come over to check it out. I couldnt get a hit in any direction. Turned out to be a 1920 Merc right at 6 inches. I was none to happy. I had my settings at disc 10, sens 85, fast grab # was in the mid 80s, tabs were notched out. Now, what I would like to know is just how folks here making claims of 6-9 inch digs have there machines set up. I have no doubt these statements are true but I cant say that I have dug a dime at 6 inches (yet). I dug plenty of iffy quarter signals at 6 but about half turned out to be those f****** bottle caps. If folks are getting those depths while running in all metal, thats fine but in parks around here you cant run in all metal, you would be wore out before you got started. BTW, through out the day, fast grabbed, I changed to BC mode, I lowered sens down to 40 and worked back to 90, I ran in all metal for a while but there were too many targets to track and hell I started getting dizzy while reading the number display LOL. I aint knocking the F75 because I believe its got a place in the line up but I am starting to be concerned that it might not be the starting pitcher when it comes to coin hunting due to the higher frequency and about 12 hours on it. Any feed back is always appreciated. TMAN...

We must be doing something wrong TMAN because I have covered alot of ground in the last few days and havn't got a hit on anything over 3-4 inches deep, besides pop cans. To me, something doesn't seem right. I hate to say it but i'm getting ready to sell the F-75 and just stick to my sovereign. I know it goes deep.

It will hit targets no motion mode will touch.
Bring a long sharpshooter shovel, or a post hole digger.

Riiight.........:poke:

BB, I am going to do a little test in the morning if I can get out of bed from all the squatting and digging I did today. LOL. I am gonna take my little ace250 that I keep as a back up and take it to a little school that has given up over 35 bucks to me since last year. There is one area that I havent checked so I feel pretty confident that i will be able to find coins rather quickly. I am gonna mark those coins that the ace finds and then take the 75 over them in discrim mode. I am gonna be able to set it up at its peak by fast grab, high sens and low disc. I am going to set the ace up in coin mode and sens at medium, (thats all I can do with it) and see what happens. I hope to be pleasently surprised and see the 75 beat its butt but I will know tomorrow. TMAN...

Sounds good. Please be sure to post your findings.

TMAN, are you getting a threshold tone while searching? Mine is always silent and the manual mentions that it should go silent when you stop swinging the coil, which makes me think that I should be hearing a threshold tone.

Non motion TID, and the only mode that will correctly i.d. bottle caps.
But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Of course if you have already made up your mind
that the F-75 has no depth & you just want to sell, I'm sure there are plenty of people
willing to buy.

BB, I heard a tone yesterday when I had the sens cranked up to 90 but I didnt here it today. My machine runs quiet as well in discrim, I need to reread the manual regarding that. Thanks for reminding me of that. Vlad, when you say people have tried it, what are you talking about? Tried what? TMAN...
