We had an unusual situation today. My daugter decided to practice her archery in the back yard and after she fired two arrows we noticed that we could not find the arrows. After searching for a while we came to conclusion that the arrows had gone under the turf. Well, recognizing the opportunity to use one of my machines to find them, I got out the Xterra with the 10.5" coil and checked one of the remaining arrow tips to see what I was looking for. Strangely enough, the arrow tip didn't register very loud just under the coil, even at 1". I didn't think this odd at first, hey small tip, unknown metal. Well, after 20 minutes of not finding anything but the signals of bee bees that had been shot earlier, I decided to break out the MXT with the large 12" coil. Well, the MXT sounded off loud and clear on the existing tip and after searching for another 10 minutes I located the arrows. I was able to ignore the bee bee signals and when I got over the tips it sounded off clearly louder than the other targets. I was surprised that the sound quality was so clearly different between the analog type detector (MXT) and the digital (X-terra 70). Has anyone else noticed this sound quality difference between digital and analog type detectors? I intend to run some other tests tomorrow, using the Xterra with its stock coil, just in case this was a coil problem, but it really makes me think I'll need to keep both detectors as I really need a detector with excellent sound discrimination qualities for relic hunting, as well as the fact that the MXT had a depth edge due to its analog threshold.
