Sound "choppy" while pinpointing

unearth

Member
Has anyone had this happen to them? While in pinpoint mode, using any of the ctx coils, when I pinpoint a target, the sound gets choppy, breaks up. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make me wonder if there is a problem with the ctx. This happens whether or not I'm using the wireless remote or have the headphones plugged straight into the detector.

It doesn't sound right to me. I get a good smooth solid tone, even on deep targets.

Very rarely has this happened to me, maybe twice ever (since June). It's almost like while you're pinpointing there is some sort of electrical interference, making what your trying to pinpoint breakup or sound choppy. I would say if it did it quite often, there is probably something wrong with your detector.

EMI, that makes sense.

Are you passing over target several times?
Sometimes. To make sure I get the highest tone and best centering. I haven't counted the amount of passes, but, I don't think it's that many. Especially with the small coil. Do you think this might be the problem? How many passes is too many to give you get the choppy sound? And if this is the problem, can it be fixed, and how?
