I was out hunting with a friend today around a bunch of old foundations near a large river supposedly a mining camp heading up the hill
Towards one of the foundations I had a solid 92 on my Deus on the hillside dug it and saw what looked like a fine condition 1916 merc hoping
It was a D but no luck!
Dang so close it’s what keeps us searching for that rare one lol supposedly some of the best opals in the world were mined here maybe take up mining?...

I detected a 1916 D a few years ago. But some yayhoo shot the 'D' out with a .22. How do I know it was a 'D'? Knowing my luck, it just had to be. :)

Nice.

You just never know!

One year I found three 1916 mercs. First was an S mint mark. Two weeks later I pulled another 1916 but it had no mint mark. A couple months later I pulled a third 1916, it was so worn I couldn't tell if it had a mint mark or not. Talk about teasers.
