Sometimes you just have to take time away from 'tectin to find other treasures!

Monster Pumpkinseed I couldn't even get my hand half way 'round to flatten the fins, to remove hook! Been wadin' all week, decided to take a break, take daughter fishin'. But yes I did scout areas where boats were beaching on sandbars.

Wicked sad part is, that we can't let the kids eat any freshwater fish in NH, since the mercury levels are so high from the mid-west coal power plants. Trust me when I say I'm no tree hugger, but I remember eatin' what I caught as a kid, and this really ticks me off. Have to release everything we catch! But at least they can say they caught'em.

At one point, in a past life I was on a mercury spill response team, where we would use copper powder to soak up the mercury and create an amalgam. Now the thought has crossed my mind about the copper coins I collect out of the lakes, has any mercury bonded to the corroded surface of the copper? Don't know, I'm not a chemist, but it does give me pause at times.
