[size=large]I'll clean something up if I think it
might be something.

But sometimes I'll miss something,
like I'm sure most of you do also.

Here's one like what I'm takin about.

I found this thing a while back.

It looked like part of an old wood
stove.

So let's do a "Before and After":

Before cleanin:

Well look what happens with a bunch
a cleanin.

After Cleanin:

Now that's somethin I can hang on tha
wall, or even use as a warmer on tha
stove top.

It still lOOks like part of an old stove,
but it's nice now.

Here's another.

Before cleanin:

Ugly ain't it?

Well lOOkie here.

After claenin:

2-11-2.jpg

Not as nice as tha stove part, but I
like it.

This is kind a fun, ain't it?

Let's do one more, OK?

All that cleanin made tha Tabdog a
dirty.

Here's tha Tabdog after he was
diggin in tha dirt.

Before cleanin:

[size=medium]Hay Crocket,

Excuse tha mess. I'm no tidy Tabdog.

I used a 6" bench grinder, a 3/8 inch drill with a brush, and a small round file.

Tabdog, I think the "stove part" is a trivet.

Looks great on the wall. Nice trophy wall of finds! I thought for sure you were going to say electrolyse.

I never expected to see so much detail.

I take everything home, you never know what you have till its clean. My buddies are "coin only" and pass what they call junk to me if they pick it up. You can learn a lot about a site from the junk I figure.

Everything tells a tale.

One place we hunt we have not had a coin older than 1815 but there have been a few buckles that date 1770s so it should be a matter of time before finding older coins there. I dated the buckles they passed to me. They thought the buckle parts where wazits.

Nice work on the cleaning and keep posting!

1859

Wow tha 1770's sounds old.

Anything that old here would be indian made.

I find some of those too.

But not with a metal detector.

I like the things more than tha coins.

That's saying a lot, because I really like tha coins also.

But give me a relic any day.

It may tell me a story.

It might even be a nice supprise.

[size=medium]I found some different definitions. One seems to fit.

<> a three-legged metal stand for supporting a cooking vessel in a hearth

<> a stand with short feet used under a hot dish on a table

<> A trivet , also known as a 'hot plate,' is an object placed between a serving dish or
bowl, and a dining table, usually to protect the table from heat damage.

<> Three legged stand to hold pots of food over the coals, on the hearth and at the table.

<> Metal or ceramic structures above burners that hold pots above the cook top flame.

I go with tha last one, almost. It works if you leave off tha word "flame".

This trivet is for a wood cook stove. It appears to have only one leg.

2-12-1.jpg

That's not a leg...........

Here's what I mean.

The so called burners on a wood cook stove have a hole to insert a handle.

stove3.jpg

Some nicer wood cook stoves came as a set. It may have included trivets.

These trivets may have been for sale separately, I don't know.

The trivets for these wood cook stoves had one thingy stickin down to
stabilize the trivet and keep it from sliding on the stove top.

That's why my trivet appears to have one leg.

Mystery solved......................:nerd:
