In the early 1800s the town of Webster Mo was established after valuable mineral deposits were discovered in the area. The little town grew rapidly and by the mid 1800s was a thriving little community complete with a hotel, general store, post office, church, schools ,mills and a few thousand hardy souls who earned there living by farming the rocky ground or digging the rich lead or iron deposits from the ground.Among those residents were my great great grandparents who were among the first settlers in the area. They are buried in the cemetary there.
About the mid 1800s the town changed it

I want to thank you. I'd also like to ask that you submit it to the local newspapers around the area. Those old people, who won't be around forever, need to hear the story--one more time.
And as for the younger ones...they need this story published because three generations from now, it could be that someone will be researching the county records and will just happen upon your goldmine of history.
Thanks for blessing my heart with this piece. I really like it when the Story Forum becomes the Story Forum--once again. <><

This is one of the spring where many thirsts have been quenched. It was once the town's main source of water

Gotta learn how to do that multi-posting thing!
This one is a grave of a soldier who fell near the town during the civil war.

...and he found a 1856 half-dime. I found two pieces of the same ornate SILVERware. It had been the spot for many a picnic.
Actually the name of the church was "Campground Church" and it kinda gave it away. We spend many days down there, finding a little here and there.
I KNOW you have been there and done that at this place. RIGHT??

I really feel at home in this area.Lots of history there and I am blessed to know much of it.It has long been my favorite hunting grounds...both for turkeys and coins.

I sure wish I had the talent for painting a picture with words, like you have.
It is good you are writing about the old days as they are being forgotten by so many of us.
Thanks for the post

Even better since is a true story of David and Goliath,, Nice to see David win again,

I have always enjoyed reading about the local history of other areas of the United States and I especially enjoyed this story where the the common folks won a major fight with the big boys! Thanks for sharing this great story. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

enjoyed this one last night, read it again today--very good story

thanks for sharing that important piece of history!

we have only lived so long and done so many things and we want the story's to last as long as we do.
The jokes just fill in the gaps.

just about the time I decide not to trust anyone, someone like the lawyer appears.
Your story reminds me of one where my mother and many of my relatives were born. Bauxite, Ar. still remains today, but if you didnt know any better, you would swear that its always been just a sleepy little town. Much aluminum ore was mined from there.
Thanks for another good story.
God Bless,
