Sometimes it pays to dig up those can signals

I had the vaquero today in a dump site. Old rusty cans were everywhere . I was kicking them out of the way. I dont even know why I dug this one. I guess because it was so loud. It was ear piercing in all metal and didnt discriminate out. Its a Ford car emblem in fantastic shape.

Now that is cool looking. Which Ford vehicle and year?

Yes that looks pretty neat. That should clean up pretty nice too! I dug a large signal earlier this year that ended up being an old Fahys coin silver pocket watch housing. It wasn't in the greatest shape but you just never know what you'll get. These signals are mostly just old zinc mason jar lids in this spot but I can't help not digging them. Great work!

Here , does anybody recognize this emblem ?

here is one i dug this summer. hood ornament off a 54 - 56 ford customline. in 57 was renamed the crown victoria. though it blew the speaker in my vaq when i pushed pinpoint button.

Oh man JD. That is really cool .
thanks hatpin. yours is nice also. i thought, not though, blew my speaker. finding silver coins is good. but, i think things like that are better.

Most of the can signals I come across, the big full ones that are loud, are usually cans...but not always.
Sometimes it is similar trash like aluminum siding, but most times it will be cans.
A few times I got the same signal, or close to the same, on a couple of targets that weren't cans.
2 were Eisenhower dollar coins, not silver but still big loud signals and fun to find in the hole.
Another one was way better than that.
This was in a park right near the edge of a lake.
I hunted here lots of times before, got this same signal many times swinging over this thing but I was sure this was a can, positive it was a can, so I never dug it.
One day I was back and this time I decided to dig it if for no other reason than to get it out of the way to see if it was masking something good.
I dug down and about 4-5" deep was this thing.
Still one of my most cherished and amazing finds to date.

Great find...keep digging those can signals!

Yea you have to be investigative at times and not be in too much of a hurry or you could leave some good stuff behind...ya'lls picks prove it! Once a few years back I was hunting a park that was opened back in 1924 here in Texas along the banks of a bayou. This particular stretch of woods I was searching didn't have that many signals until I hit one area that had a lot of old can lids and can fragments. Started getting pretty frustrated with all the signals so I veered off a bit from the main pile(about 20 feet) and hit what I thought for sure was another can lid. The target was shallow and big like the can lids but it read high and it turned out to be a 1907 Barber Half found at about 2-3" in undisturbed wooded ground.I found a few other coins in the same general area...an Indian, a Buffalo, a Merc and a early wheat but no coins had a later date than 1929. Guess I'll never know for sure but I'm thinking it could have been an old Hooverville campsite:shrug: Best of luck out there and HH!

Hear in Canada our $1 & $2 coins max out the discrimination on the Vaquero and a shallow $2 coin can be confused with a crushed can so I dig those signals now and it makes the hunt totals sky rocket. Coin spills give the same strong signal and I have been digging more coin spills.
Lighters and old makeup compacts are the other objects that come up also.
Vaquero is a magnet for Canadian coinage and my coil is the lighter weight DD 5x10 wide scan.
