Sometimes cherries, sometimes pits...

Digging this weekend was the pits. Went to a park first thing in the morning but the ground was frozen solid and it was just plain too cold. Ran a couple of errands and decided to try elsewhere when the sun warmed things up a little.

So, a little later, I hit a different playground... must be a new one and little used. Aside from a couple of bottle caps all I got was a quarter and a little heart shaped (junk) locket. (couldn't find the chain :) )

Then it was off to the beach. It was so sanded in I left after only about 15 minutes and 1 cruddy zinc.

I then drove to another park in search of an old foundation someone told me about. Walked the entire area and couldn't find it. On my way out, someone who asked me what I was doing said they thought the old farm was on the other side of the street in another part of the park. Will have to look on Google Earth to see if I can find it and try it another time.

Off to yet another park. Worked the sand playground and other than 2 pennies, it was devoid of targets. Not even many pulltabs. Must have long since been pounded. So, I decided to hit the picnic area. I only lasted about 20 minutes there. I couldn't believe how much trash there was. Seemed like there was a bottle cap and a pull tab in every square inch. I don't think I'll go back there again.

On top of that it's been COLD. Temps have been in the 20's at night and barely reaching 40 during the day along with heavy gusts of wind. Gotta remember to bring a BIG handkerchief with me next time :)

All in all, it was still better than nothing. I just can't wait for the spring!

Your day is coming, when the heat is on and the beachgoers are losing their jewelry. I hope you find a lot this year!

If my wife ever lets me buy one more MD related item  it's going to be a 5". The Platypus is good for "normal" trashy areas as it has better separation but some of these places are absolutely ridiculous. Whoa, this last park was terrible. Really could have used a little sniper like coil.

when you get here I will take you on a few good hunts! :)

Hi Joe,
My wife actually got me my little coil. It's a White's 4x6 DD for my DFX. She got it by submittin' here 'tectin story to them. If they print yer story they give ya a $200 certificate for White's products.I did that about 5 years ago and they rpinted my story in thier catalog. Her story is printd on thier website. I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet but have used a small coil on my IDX Pro and man o man what a difference in trashy spots. MMMM...hey, maybe ya could find yerself a local park and really do some SERIOUS coin shootin and git the $$$ fer a coil dat way ? I'm not familiar wit the coils ya named, what are ya swingin' ?

I'm swinging an ExpII for about 10 months now. I've only been MD'ing for close to two years. The Platypus is a Coiltek coil and is an eliptical 8.5 X11.5. Still gets good depth but gets better target separation because of the shape. I'm tossed between getting a 12" (Sunray X-12) for the beach or a 5" or 8" for the trashy parks. Right now the finances aren't there for either but hopefully I'll find enough gold and clad this summer at the beach to finance another purchase :)

rushing detecting season just a bit, but if you bury those pits, ya might grow more cherries! Good luck for finding enough to buy some more equipment! The beaches will get reseeded when it's sunbathing and swimming time again and it'll be here before ye know it! :)

God Bless & HH
