When is someone going to come out with some new technology? We have made small steps in the future of metal detecting. OK some are lighter and deeper and do better in trash. But how about being able to separate trash from gold targets. And the detector tells you it is gold.
Look at the play station and computers and GPS and all of that technology. We have less places to hunt and all I read about is some detector that claims it can go deeper, but one that can find the gold from the trash! I need a reason to go back out to all my favorite places and re hunt them.
I love Fisher products I have three detectors from them. I just want something so different so state of the art it will add the excitement back into detecting.

I guess its hard to improve on that technology. I would be happy if they made a detector that dug the hole & covered it up for you. I had me one of them a while back, (the wife)it didn't take her long at all to quickly decide that she wanted her own detector & now I'm back to where I was before. Beep & dig. hahahahahahahahahaha.

If a unit could pick out gold jewelry, gosh our parks would really be cleaned out and the thrill of the hunt gone as all or most of it would be picked up. I have to agree with the exception of going deeper detecting units have evolved very little in the last 10 or 15 years, but feel even if some of this technology were available would be cost prohbitive to companies to produce and keep the prices down. I really feel many fine units out there and many superb detectorists that have learned to use them well, however the only true discriminator is a shovel as many objects just mimic all that nice jewelry.

I saw a program last year, some Scottish fellow found a way to determine what the material is that you are looking at. It compares the reflected info with a database. On the tv show they located the lost ship of Bonnie Prince Charlie through a lot of water and mud. On this show he stated that this technology was to be made accessible to treasure hunters.
The device itself could be made by anyone who had anysort of skill with a soldering iron. The secret was the software that ran on a p.c. . Right after the show I went to the website and read up on it, very neat stuff. I can not find it now....
This was truly a new technology so to speak, nothing new in how to get a signal from the metal but how to analyse it. If anyone finds the site let me know.....

The Minelab GP3000 sells for about $3650.00. You want quality, you have to pay for it, ouch! But I think the technologie these days should offer better detectors at a more reasonable price. HH, Mike
