Something new for tot lots and volleyball courts

coach c

New member
Starting thinking today about the depth of the sand on volleyball courts and wood chips in tot lots. The one I was at today has wood about 8 inches in most areas and the sand on the volleyball court was also this deep. Both worked out completely. Thought I would see if all metal mode might find deeper things that had been overlooked. Found a few coins in the tot lot before going to the volleyball court. Got a signal ID'd at 3 in the all metal mode. Checked it with jewelry mode and got no response. Dug up a nice 24 inch, 10K, gold chain. Something to consider since there is so little trash in these areas anyway......Coach

Good thinking Coach. Chains are very hard to get a good hit on.
Volleyball courts are a good choice in my opinion to use all metal
and crank up the sensitivity. Dig it all and see what the others have
left you. Don't worry about the I.D. and dig it all. It's easy digging
so why not. From what I have seen myself there are very few that
have the patience to do this.
WTG, your determination has won you a nice prize for your effort !
What detector were you swinging by the way? Just curious.
Gold does that to me. Best of luck next time out ! Gene

Gene.....I was using GTI 2500. Started hunting in jewelry mode and sensitivity below 7. I was obviously at a park that had been well hunted, since I found nothing. Not even a pull tab in the wood chips. That's when I stuck my bayonet in to see how deep the chips were. Changed to a higher sensitivity and went to all metal......Coach

Great find..

Ive found coins and some tokens and costume jewlery at those
parks. But the ones I detect in have a thick layer of plastic about
4 inches or so .down. I dont want to tear anything up so i just ignore signals
at 6 inches o so which KILLS me ...

Good hunting

Ron

The barck chips out here are sixteen inches and more. So is the sand on VB courts. When chips get old here they just throw on another layer.

I would say you have learned the 2500 very well.
Were you in motion or nonmotion all metal ?

That IS a good idea. Like was already mentioned, some have black
plastic about 4 to 5 inches down. I have that problem here as well.
Its still a good idea though because I'm sure I'll run into some places that don't.
