is Taking all the different soft metals I find (gold, silver, copper, "aluminum?" Lead), melting them down and making pure bars of them. Does anyone have experience with this. It would be neat to take the junk and actually do something with it. HH

You better watch out with melting lead or you could turn out to be another mad hatter like Alice in Wonderland.

Actually, "Mad as a hatter" came about as a result of exposure to mercury, not lead.
Hats were made with felt which was made from chopped up wool. The chopped up wool was spread around in a flat pan and then was topped off with mercury. The weight of the mercury would press the chopped wool into felt.
The hatters lived and breathed in a mercury enriched
atmosphere and they handled the stuff with no idea that it would eventually destroy their brain cells

Wo! No problem, havent done it and wont. Lead, mercury whatever count me out. However I have seen some freinds of mine pour lead weights, though I didnt understand the mechanics behind it. I have heard lead somehow can contribute to alzheimers disease, though I heard that is due to ingestion. Dont care, and I dont wanna know. However if there is anyone out there that knows about any of the other elements that are commonly found detecting, or ways to melt them and pour them safely I would like to know. Thanx! HH

Jason,
Here are a couple of links with some information that you may find interesting.
If you use one of the Internet search engines and look for

Oops, you are right! It was mercury that drove them mad.
Anyway, inhaling lead fumes is also bad for your health.

One practical consideration-- even if you make a bar you'd have to have it assayed - cored etc to get it valued- $$$ etc. Not worth it. Selling actual jewelry or scrap is easier. Of course, if you want a paper weight....
