Something doesn't seem quite right....

I need your guys help. Was doing comparisons between my Shadow and F75 for audio difference and how it picked up a 3-ringer beside a shell fragment, and things didn't seem right. I did a straight air test of the .58 3-ringer with the Shadow and it clearly was repeating at 15 inches...but the F75 was only getting about 4 inches! 5 might be an exaggeration...here are my settings and I was hoping someone could duplicate it to see what you got and see if I needed to call customer service and have them look at it...4 inches is NOT right for this powerhouse of a machine....

DE mode
fast grab @ 57
Disc 6
Sens. 80
3 tones
notch 1

I think that's it...I knew something didn't feel comfortable about it over the last couple of hunts, but I couldn't pinpoint what it was. Thanks for you help and input.

Ive never air tested the 75.....mostly because air tests arent definative.......and it seemed to get things plenty deep out in the field.
I just airtested a 58 in the house with the stock coil, in De with the sens at about 80. didnt check the Gb..but am sure it was at the usual for my area.......which is around 65-70 most places...........
The 75.in the house with all the normal Rf interference will get a standard 58 at close to 8 inches. This is the farthest I can get it BOTH ways.....with a nice repeatable signal. outside, well away from any Rf sources it will get the 58 an additional three inches away.
When I switch to JE in the house............................it will get the same target at 15 inches...............and outside at closer to 17.
Now I know you know what your doing...........but make SURE there are no strong Rf sources close to you when you airtest (thats pretty much impossible in the house)........AND make sure your not wearing any jewelery when you do it. If you have a watch on the wrist of the hand you hold the rod with for instance....it will make a DRASTIC difference in the apparent depth of the machine. I've actually seen guys do this....... hold the rod just above the coil with a big watch on their wrist...and then swing a target under the coil. they cant figure out why the cant get any depth at all,not realizing the watch is affecting the field. If your watching the Rf sources................are well away from any metal, either on your person or close by.....and STILL get no distance....than you likely have a problem. Do you have a small coil to test as well? The depth capabilities of the little coil are nearly identical to the big one!! Streak!

was up to my eyeballs in wiring and Drywall.............
After thinking about you little problem....something else occured to me about the coil situation. Shadow airtest VS Fisher Aritest......

One thing that wasnt mentioned...is that concentric coils are.....size for size..... inherently deeper than DD coils. (ESPECIALLY in airtests...when the ground isnt a factor) now, having said that, the 75 does VERY well in comparison against a comparable concentric coil...despite it having a DD coil for a stock coil.
you never mentioned what coil was on the Shadow when you tested it. If you had the 9" concentric on......your airtest was pretty much what I'd expect on a minnie...........BUT...if you put the DD coil on the shadow I think you'll see a fair amount of loss in the airtest.
I think to make a valid comparison (AND to test your 75 to see if it actually has problems)..........is to forego airtests...and do an in the ground comparison. Find a nice clean spot and bury a minnie at about maybe 8 inches. GB the shadow....................and put it in beach mode at the highest sens you can manage....(this will be comparable to the tamer DE mode on the F75). See how the shadow gets it. (probably wont) THEN...put the shadow in regular Disc mode and try it again. (WILL get it but it will be pretty faint) Then...............shut the shadow OFF (very important), and turn on and Fast grab the 75 in De, with the sens around 80. See if that gets the minnie (It should).. than put it in JE...re Gb and try it again..it will likley blow your ears off.
I'd make sure it wont (the 75) get the targets IN THE GROUND before I'd pronounce the machine bad.
Also.......the 75 'MAY" be a bit more susceptable to Rf interference (testing in the house) than the shadow is......hence the disparate airtests. I'd be curious to hear about your new airtests away from any possible Rf sources..................................

i also had very weak airtests with mine(outdoors).

Streak is correct, DD coils don't necessarily airtest very well. Myself I don't fool around with stuff like that too much except to try out the different settings and listen to the tones. This unit reminds me of my GPX 4000, lots of adjustability and I can run it where it is edgy which is what I like....I'm going to find some nuggets with this one this summer as it is tagging along everywhere I go...Good Hunting Geo
