Something About Seeing A Gold Ring Sticking Out Of The Dirt!

No, this ain't mine. I just ran across it in another forum and thought...You know, there is just something extra "satisfying" about seeing a ring sticking out of a pile of dirt to me then seeing one at the bottom of a scoop. A bit more effort involved the hard way, although I don't mean to imply that water hunting isn't hard work. You know what I mean? There's just a certain "WOW" factor about seeing that glint of gold emerge from soil while land hunting. That just stuck in my mind and thought I'd post these two pics from the lucky guy that found it. I think he said it's gold with a platnum band in the middle.

Agreed, CH. I've only pulled a few from soil, and the one that sticks out in my mind was a ladies wedding band I pulled from a red clay baseball field....not only hard work digging, but another testament to FBS technology (bagged it with my EXII) detecting the good stuff in less than ideal dirt. In that same red clay the Explorer also snagged a Merc at 10 inches. I have to admit though, seeing gold in the bottom of a scoop probably charges me up just as much.

Digging anything out of the concrete hard dirt right now is real tuff. Always scared that I am going to damage whatever I'm trying to dig up. Better to make your plugs a little bigger to give you some extra digging leverage around your target and to make sure that you leave as much root system intact as you can. Now, trying to get that deep ring in the water or near the water with the sand filling back in your hole is not easy either. Either way, I'm happy to see that gold looking back at me.

the ground right now is like concrete. that's why it's better going to the water, digging sandy areas. or either just go fishing or stay home in the ac, no need to ruin opportunities to hunt somewhere because the soil is too hard and you cannot make a clean recovery/refill. jmho

That's when it's time to pull out the screwdriver, Pro Pointer, and just pop out shallow stuff. I only like to use a probe anyway on some nice sports fields like fenced in ball diamonds. Makes for some fast clad totals too, and you are going quick to where the numbers game is in your favor to pop a gold ring by popping the "junk" signals. Beach hunting is a numbers game. yea, I know more are prone to lose a ring on the beach than some areas on land, but when you think about it you still scoop a ton of junk, but it's fast so the numbers game gives up the rings. Same deal with popping shallow stuff with a screwdriver. I use my Pro Pointer to home in on the stuff I find shallow with the GT and then pop it right out. Admit though I haven't done much probe hunting lately.

I know exactly what you mean, Critterhunter. I think subconsciously I expect to find gold at the beach now and then, as that's the conditioning one gets from all the adverts about water hunting.
I have found a couple rings in the dirt and was shocked they werent tabs or nickels.
Greater WOW factor for me while dirt hunting gold.
