I went back to where I found the SLQ and other coins. Today (for two hours) I concentrated on an area at the top of this tiny little hill (if you want to call it that ) and up there were two huge rocks. Well right in between (it was probably not much bigger than 3’ L x 2’ W.) there was a boatload of mid tones and I just needed to investigate. Knowing that I had found buffalos and silver the other day I wanted to make sure the area was sanitized of targets. :)

The very first area between these two rocks I received multiple tones jumping from 50’s – 70’s on the ATP. Dug in and the first two targets that come out are brass shotgun shells. I then see a glimmer of silver in the hole! Out popped a rosie. I scan the hole again and its still giving me a mid-tone. Got my pin pointer down in that hole and out came a buffalo.
Goes to show the silver dime, buffalo and two wheat cents were all masked by shotgun shells. The reason why I pursued digging every mid-tone: There was no other signals on this small hill other than between these two rocks. Strange.

I have never dug so many brass shotgun shells in a single hunt but it did pay off with a few old coins. :smoke: Hard work does pay off

Your brother sure tipped you off well with that location! Just curious, what's on the head-stamp of those shells? You can make some cool "shotgun shell rings" out of those.

Funny thing, this morning I went to breakfast with my brother and during the course of our conversation he mentioned I went to the wrong place  He was referencing for me to go down the street 1/4 mile further. Well, it looks like a have another spot I need to attend to. :smoke:

In any case the majority of them state UMC Nitro Club on the head stamp. A few of them are Winchester Repeaters.

Thanks.......those UMC nitro club show up in these parts of the woods too. The Remington-UMC Nitro Club was available from 1911-1937.
