I went back to where I found the SLQ and other coins. Today (for two hours) I concentrated on an area at the top of this tiny little hill (if you want to call it that ) and up there were two huge rocks. Well right in between (it was probably not much bigger than 3’ L x 2’ W.) there was a boatload of mid tones and I just needed to investigate. Knowing that I had found buffalos and silver the other day I wanted to make sure the area was sanitized of targets.
The very first area between these two rocks I received multiple tones jumping from 50’s – 70’s on the ATP. Dug in and the first two targets that come out are brass shotgun shells. I then see a glimmer of silver in the hole! Out popped a rosie. I scan the hole again and its still giving me a mid-tone. Got my pin pointer down in that hole and out came a buffalo.
Goes to show the silver dime, buffalo and two wheat cents were all masked by shotgun shells. The reason why I pursued digging every mid-tone: There was no other signals on this small hill other than between these two rocks. Strange.
I have never dug so many brass shotgun shells in a single hunt but it did pay off with a few old coins. Hard work does pay off
